There are trades to be made here, but exchanges are not what is holding this ‘down’. If it works it will boom because it will fill a gaping need in the world that nothing else that I’ve seen can do. “Data is the oil of the information economy” yada yada. Freedom of speech and association, combined with privacy and the intrinsic worth of uncensorable information storage and presentation is a pretty heady use case. There aren’t many feelings like the first time I understood bitcoin, but this is one of them.
The members of this forums have already demonstrated proof of concepts of many of the particulars. This is a bet, but an asymmetric one. My only investment advice is don’t have none… or if you are on the fence, be prepared to contribute resources if it does start taking off.
I’ll just add - be prepared to involve all your friends in farming. I tested this concept 3 years ago with Storj,I set up farms with 8 people (netbooks and nettops with 1 tb hard drives) It worked surprisingly steadily with very little effort on my part…
Price is rising and things still need to be proven but there is so much trash out there with much higher values and MC’s. When this works out this whole $5-10 talk will seem silly. XRP has a MC today of 16 billion. Anything XRP does MAID can do ten times better. See everyone at $600!
What were those folks experience of this, and what kind of people were they wrt computers and technology?
Do you know if any are still running, and if not why they stopped? I’m also curious about the economics. Sounds an interesting case study we could all learn from.
I was thinking of doing something like this with Safe but never got that far obvs.
In short, the computers were mine, I set everything up (port redirection and installing storj). I only asked them to restart the computers from time to time when I lost access to them.
Overall it was easy and I didn’t lose more than 1 hour a month. I think the farms worked for 1-1.5 years before Storj stopped version 2 of their network.
My friends liked to receive free money, I’m sure they will want me to put Safe Farms when the time comes. Everyone loves free money.
By the way, I took these computers in 2014, because then it was said that in a few months there will be a working Safe network.
I think if we can break through resistance in the $0.50 to $0.52 range a run to the prior ATH is not out of the question. Price action last month or so has been very strong.
