What’s up today? (Part 1)

I can’t see that Tweet. I’ve noticed a few changed in Twitter recently. First, if you don’t save cookies, you have to do a 4 stage manual login process as the Firefox password manager doesn’t populate the login fields. Second, they hide the logout process and then ask you if you really want to log out (they really don’t want you to log out). Third, I see a lot of suggestions in What’s Happening for things I rarely read, like the Telegraph for example, which didn’t happen before so much. And yes, I’ve heard of a few people being banned for spurious reasons. Maybe to do with changes at the top and efforts to make it more ‘advertiser friendly’?. Who knows

Agree they are being ridiculous, I am not sure that you gain anything by standing your ground either.

I know it is a matter of principle but
Id click agree and live to fight another day.

Is given up your account going to achieve anything other than the satisfaction of knowing you did not give in? I’d think you probably lose more than you gain here.

It’s a personal issue and while it is a matter of principle, the reason I’m still on twitter and still have x.com anyway, is because I don’t stick doggedly to all principles. However, asking me to agree to something when I don’t is a bit far, and I didn’t agree to Facebook’s new terms in order to recover access to that account (back in 2017 I think). Reminds me of how authoritarian governments ‘persuade’ people to say things they don’t believe (cf. Peng Shui right now), and that should be called out. Which I will do if they don’t relent.

I’m not sure if I want the account back. What do I lose? A few followers, not really of value to me, the list of people I was following (I can probably get by requesting a download).

What I’m noticing is I get my time back by not having access - as I did with facebook - and this feels good. I tend to need a bit of a kick to make positive changes and maybe this is it. I still have other SM accounts including dormant ones on twitter if I want them. For now I’m going to follow the appeals process - that’s useful information which I can share.

The new ceo is really dipshit, maybe he has a stupid plan for twitter like it will allow only what countries allow by law so its the go to place for everyone to tweet including all public services like police etc

It will be interesting to see how this all develops.

Just look up…

It would be nice to believe that next year will be different; I still like to believe there are good people in Government and NatSec but while they behave like rats in a sewer, it is not easy.

A Government without principals, is not worthy…

In this weather? Keep your hat ON @happybeing. Looks like you are more prone to heat-loss from the skull than most of us

Hope everyone has a happy healthy peaceful, warm and comfortable festive season.

Oh and full marks for sticking to your principles, Ive just had a warning from twitter myself… Seems some Tories dont like being called “shit-for-brains xenophobic tossers”… Cant think why…

I had a ban imposed by Twitter and then a (kinda) voluntary ban as I did not reinstall Twatter when I had to get a new phone. My mental health definitely improved when using the phone. I am still swithering about deleting it from the PC and laptop.

Telecast starts on NASA in about 20 minutes

NASASpaceflight channel (NOT NASA) is doing a broadcast of the launch, prob have their own camera in addition to showing the NASA official stream and starts in 5 minutes

Launch window is approx 30 minutes and starts at 12:20 UTC

I’m not big on any social media apps, but this does make you realise how restricted the content is and how much the narrative is shaped. Clearly, what remains visible is what aligns with what the platform deems appropriate. It makes you wonder how much other content is removed and how distorted the narrative is.

Ofc, we can argue they can remove anything they like from their platform. However, if they exercise this aggressively, it dilutes the whole point of the platform. It is becoming a platform that censors controversy.

Well the rocket did it’s job! JWST is on it’s way … now it’s all up to the observatory and it’s team.

Let’s go JWST. Been waiting twenty years to see this, and watched it with my kids and a special coffee … what a Christmas present that the launch was flawless. Now for ~120 days of terror as we count down through 324 single points of failure  [edit to remove profanity, sorry]

You could also delete the tweet for other reasons then agreeing it violated their rules
I’ve read somewhere that the popularity of Twitter is declining or not growing that strong as others. That and the change of CEO will probably trigger some not so good changes. Their main goal is profit of course.

I’m afraid not, I’m locked out until I agree to both.

To me, as with Facebook before, a step too far is an opportunity for me so while I’ll continue with the appeal process I’m unlikely to capitulate if it fails as I expect. I’ve enjoyed not being on Twitter so much (I still have safepress), and feel better for it among other things.

Just pull the plug on twitter and don’t look back. They’ve labelled you a right wing extremist now anyhow. Mastodon?

One like is not enough for the above.
