RoyaltiesPaymentNet [Testnet 31/10/23] šŸ§› šŸ‘» [ Offline ]

Been out all evening for birthday dinner and beer. Arrived home to a nice testnet birthday pressie

Buuuuuut…

ditto

I will now read the rest of the comments and see if its worth firing up a node or 30 from the cloud.

EDIT: Think I’ll save my credit at Hetzner for the next one. - Unless anyone wants to convince me otherwise…

By Royal decree from the King of the Internet the fines issued by the testnet cops has been overturned and the year of the testnets has been allowed to continue.

Yay for the continuance of The Year of The TestNets with a right royal of a testnet to celebrate

I was able to successfully upload three batches of files about seven hours ago. Trying now to upload, but stuck on ā€œconnecting to the safe networkā€.

Appears to be a Royal Zombie.

Yupppp, it certainly seems to have had a bad time still. I suspect at the moment until we get those fixes from lib2p in a release we’ll have to disable royalty payment forwarding.

Edit: bringing this down, looks like the gossip msgs are potentially looping here. :male_detective:

Before you did, my nodes were:

NODE 1 RAM 2688 MB puts 0 gets 0
NODE 2 RAM 719 MB puts 18 gets 19

After:

NODE 1 RAM 112 MB puts 235 gets 3739
NODE 2 RAM 116 MB puts 293 gets 635

Are we maybe having a network without Maidsafe nodes now? The one causing the gossip is gone → memory down?

This is a CALL TO ACTION, COMMUNITY, let’s keep this alive! :raised_hands:

EDIT:

Hmmm… Vdash shows I have 0 connections, yet the number of GETs keeps growing at pace. And the total of PUTs is not growing, so my nodes are not pingponging together. Paging @happybeing

Can you take a look in the loss for the connections messages? I think the line ass ā€˜connected peers’ or similar.

I don’t fully understand what you ask? To search with those words from log files?

A log file from 7 minutes ago didn’t contain word ā€˜connected’ at all. But it had for example this line:

TRACE sn_node::replication] Not having enough peers to start replication: 14/20

So some peers are there.

I searched a log file from the middle of the night. The only connect* it had was 7 of these:

[2023-11-01T02:31:36.639392Z ERROR sn_networking::event] IncomingConnectionError from local_addr:?"/ip4/192.168.1.104/tcp/12001", send_back_addr "/ip4/206.189.25.195/tcp/57054" on ConnectionId(25249) with error Transport(Other(Custom { kind: Other, error: Custom { kind: Other, error: Left(Right(Apply(Io(Custom { kind: UnexpectedEof, error: "eof" })))) } }))

And Vdash says the status of both nodes is Connected.

Screenshot from my Node 1 on Vdash at the moment:

Most my nodes are dead already think when we try to keep a net alive with only community nodes is not far away but not today

  1. Will uploads work without ā€œroyaltyā€ being alive?
  2. How it will be possible to bootstrap node when all bootstrap nodes are gone? With -peer option or something like that?

@aatonnomicc @Vort I just managed to upload after setting export SAFE_PEERS to one of my own nodes!

Can you share it?

Well, the download is not working for me. The upload skipped the verifications:

Looks like network have not enough resilience to continue operation without first nodes being online :frowning:

Nice one that it’s doing anything at all.

Think the network must be very resilient to be doing anything at all there can’t be many nodes left.

Iv only got a few nodes left

I think that’s expected. I remember @dirvine mentioning some minimum of nodes that is needed for stability, it was about 2000 if I remember right. I/we have now maybe 14.

If anyone wants to connect I can DM my node connection info.

If we didn’t try we wouldn’t know, thanks for the effort Josh et al.

May not affect many but perhaps mention when you expect something may be off compared to other tests.

For instance I (and I am sure others) calculate what we could reasonably run based on previous tests.
So I spun up 300 nodes which went very poorly for my machines.

Had there been a note warning that memory may be higher we could take that into account and be more prudent with the numbers and hopefully avoid large numbers of nodes going offline rapidly.

Good point. Having seen last time my 20 nodes ran the distance so I started with 30 and some were killed all right away. So I killed them all to start again with 20.

Definitely been thinking about doing this but since this one didn’t run very well with even with original nodes think we should try this with the next one performance depending.

It was mentioned in context of having more equal distribution of chunks.
Which is probably wrong.

Most likely, network can work with small amount of nodes, but it’s a shrinkage which is not implemented.
Also there may be some sort of centralization which is left semi-intentionally.
Why there were no tests with slowly turning off initial nodes? It was proposed many times if I remember correctly.

I suspect it got out-of-hand too quickly.
