MaidSafeCoin (MAID & eMAID) - Price & Trading topic (Part 2)

Correct. Not guaranteed of course, it a beta for a reason, but that’s the ideal.

That just being a possibility is a great incentive to encourage everyone to thoroughly stress test the beta!

Now it’s been clarified that a public beta will NOT include GUI and browser, I must revise my estimate of potential price point down to between $1 - $2. It also depends on whether the public beta is released into the bitcoin bull market cycle, following next year’s halving.

There is often a few launch candidates, but some companies revise history to make it seem there was only just one with some minor cosmetic changes LOL

Its not a negative that bugs are still being fixed during the launch candidate stage since many do not participate in testing during alpha & beta stages and wait for release candidates and/or launch.

To be honest, personally my opinion is that it will be possible release candidate data will persist and doubt beta will. Often the potential for incorrectly stored data in beta code is possible and to have that persist forever is not good. The question always arises when did the last bug fix fixing some (rare?) storage issue occur or interaction problem causing rare incorrect storage. At least by release candidate state the code should be essentially bug free in the core operations and storage issues non-existant (hopefully).

@JimCollinson I am wondering if it would be possible to reward testers in the release candidate networks that persist to live be also rewarded with equivalent SNT from the test SNT they earned testing those release candidates that have the data persisting.

After all they were performing the normal operations of the live and did store data that persisted to the live network.

And it’d be a great incentive for people to join the release candidate networks testing it. More eyes will help testing and prepare the network for launch.

It’s one of the areas we are doing a lot of thinking about at the moment. Not just to thank people for their time and efforts in testing, but also it is vital we get as close as we can to the economic dynamics of the live network for us to test effectively.

There are, however, constraints. FINMA regs being one of them… so it probably won’t be a straight exchange of test tokens for SNT.

But introducing market dynamics via the potential of data persisting, and rewarding testing, is very much on the cards.

How its meaned?

A) maid team found way to download all data and put to changed network
B) beta will remain to final network without change?

Thx

It would work by upgrading nodes without deleting data.

and what about some “security”? I mean if external firm will to do audit to code, and then network will be upgraded so then audit will be old… Thanks

Audit is only ever a snapshot. Code will continue to change regardless. An audit will remain useful even as some code changes but less useful as more code changes.

In addition to what @happybeing said, since the code is opensource and a audit was done on version x.y.z then people can examine the changes since version x.y.z and come to their own conclusion if the code is still secure.

For funsies, not to be taken too seriously, and as a snapshot in time; I decided to calculate the real dollar cost to store a file on the latest ClientImprovementNet Testnet as if we were playing with real money.

My recent “cost” to upload a 6.53MB file (about the size a high quality photo) was 4136 nSNT. At the current price of ~$0.24 USD per Maidsafecoin, the real dollar cost to store this file on this Testnet would have been $0.000000993 USD (0.000004136 SNT * $0.24).

Providing a real world example for comparison; the cost of 2TB of Google Drive cloud storage is $12 USD/mo, their most popular plan and something the “Average Joe” would likely look at first if they were in the market for cloud storage. With some back-of-the-napkin math, it would cost $0.00003918 USD/mo to store the same 6.53MB file on Google Drive (6.53MB / 2 TB * $12).

So what’s the equivalent cost to store on the future Safe Network if each SNT was priced equivalent to Google Drive?

$0.00003918 USD / 0.000004136 SNT = $9.47 USD

According to my math, each Maidsafecoin/SNT would have to be worth $9.47 USD to have the equivalent purchasing power relative to Google Drive. In my opinion, there’s definitely more value, though, in pay once/store forever versus a monthly subscription plan so I feel $9.47 USD per Maidsafecoin/SNT is probably the floor once things really solidify.

If Maidsafe and the App Developers can make onboarding to the Safe Network relatively frictionless for the “Average Joe”, I believe the sky’s the limit.

Is bearmarket is your math valid if we want know rather real example which reflect reality? I maybe miss something but this is my idea when I saw u count by today maidsafe value (0.24)

You can’t make any future predictions on SNT price based on numbers of a test network. Future value of the SNT won’t be based on how much storage you can get on a test network compared to other cloud storage services. I wonder if these calculations are made because people think BTC value is connected to the cost of mining which is wrong.

SNT value will be based on supply and demand based on the popularity and future value of the network and the stored data, yearly growth rate and how valuable SNT is as a currency and so on.

SNT relation to price of storage could be like something like this.

If SNT value up then storage gets realtive cheaper → demand up → price to store up until new equilibrium.

If SNT value down then storage gets realtive more expensive → demand down → -> price to store down until new equilibrium.

If more nodes join → supply of total storage up → decreased price of storage → demand for storage up until new equilibrium.

If more nodes leave → supply of total storage down → increased price of storage → demand for storage down until new equilibrium.

Have not done these logical scenarios in about 10 years so might have missed something.

That’s planned more like a proof of concept for my Red language bindings, that I’m working on for more than two years already. The functionality is not decided yet, but probably something simple, because it was a side-project. Now, that I’m unemployed, it’s getting more love and at some point, with some donations/funding perhaps, it could even grow into something bigger. I have lots of ideas.

I even succeeded with connecting to the network once, and I think I’m close to doing it once again, as soon as I fight Rust and client API complexities.
