The plan is to reduce to 50% of the original. So just over 2 billion.
@Bux, @JimCollinson, @dirvine, I have had a lot of backlog lately due to, among other things, testing of the Beta version, but also due to testing of my computers, internet connections, etc which has been very time-consuming, hence I am only now asking these questions but I hope I have earned the answers, so I will be grateful for the attention:
I will ask perversely, is there really no alternative to this approach? I have another option in mind, namely a third solution. 
And how much will this approach complicate matters and how much additional work will be required in adapting the Native Token?
How long will users have to wait for the Native Token to be launched? Is there an estimate of how long it will take to get the target Network and Token up and running?
How will the team lead the development of the Native Network and the target Token, will this be based on a working network with the ERC20 token?
As we progress with our native payment development, we envision allowing data uploaders to choose the payment method between ERC-20 payment and native token payment. This will provide flexible payment options for both crypto native users as well as those who donât want to interact with crypto in general.
Is the combination of fire and water likely to provide the most accessible and useful network?
As mentioned above the Native Network Token is very much on the roadmap, this will be particularly important if weâre able to reach the scale that we have set out to.

Yes. Upon releasing the last update to the White Paper earlier this year, the MaidSafe team were made aware of concerns around the level of discretion and control the Foundation would (potentially) have over the Network/Native Token. As a result steps have now been taken to address this concern (including automation).There will be a reduction of maximum token supply (by 50%) and there will be updates to support token health (essential for the token-based network to scale and function).
What does this mean specifically, what 50% reduction in the maximum token supply is being referred to? Is it about the total target supply of tokens?

@DavidMc0 Forking specifically without the Token and the Royalty would be the point otherwise its not FOSS- its a closed foundation centric- or central point of failure model.
@neo I guess I do remember that and my own fleeting wish for content systems that would pay by pricing a generic second of human attention as increment of value tied to a world wide average with no local adjustment. But then I started thinking developers should not be paid, that they were basically members of the leisure class who did the work to give back or people who just had to free their inspiration to keep it from consuming them. Then I started to hate PTP as more supplier welfare hiding and behind the starving artist image type stuff. Yep, supply side welfare is usually a state affair.
Just saw it as a massive distraction and adulteration.
GDPR would not allow the MaidSAFE vision. It forces censorship through moderation. And just think of the UKs defamation laws. MaidSAFE probably got an offer they werenât allowed to refuse behind the scenes- unless it was a front all along. They made the foundation the centralized top down point of failure.
Co-option is not always voluntary but it is common.
Look at the education of Musk. He introduces the public to the next thing but then suddenly starts promoting the fossil DeBeers scam by saying for him it was always about running out and not about climate as much. (LIE) Then suddenly saying over and over again very loudly: we need a lot more fossil now! (LIE! demand was at its lowest in 75 years they were paying to give it away
.) To finally endorsing and financing the man whose only real police was/is keeping fossil slavery going specifically because it is cotton picking slavery part II despite his having collapsed it in his first term and being at odds with many of the US fossil barrons.

I think this forum will be the best thing about what came of MaidSAFE. I canât see this ever working with the 15% etc. That is an engine that wonât start. Seems like Jim Lowry STORJ already put forth some of the original conception. But also did a sht coin. But when you ask what the project if it had launched 15 years ago would have accomplished by now- what would that have been? To help manifest AI? We got lucky because that happened anyway.
Appreciate that, but please multiply these opinions and questions by at least 100 and ask how many people I can personally respond to, all of whom feel the same?
There are many, but time and money need considered. i.e. do somewhat or ponder everything

@Profess @Warren Did you manage along to the Stages event on Discord yesterday? We went into these topics in some detail. Itâs a great way to cover them as well, as thereâs a lot to it, and nuance too, and way easier than repeating the same thing over again on a thread.
If you didnât make it, Iâd encourage you to come in future, as you get the opportunity to ask Qs and get them answered in real time too. You can even hop on the mic too if you want!

Letâs not encourage that behavior. We should avoid using a centralized, proprietary communications application that does not respect the privacy of its users. There are other alternatives though that are free, open source, and allow similar functionality to Discord.

Can we run a recoding of the stages through a TTS and get a transcript for those who could not make the stages - or missed the bits where various mics dropped out.
And if this was to take >15 mins of anyones time, just forget I ever mentioned it, OK?
Fun fact: @JimCollinson used to work for a manufacturer of extremely hi-fidelity sound reproduction equipment. But they didnât make microphones⌠

We did say we wouldnât be recording the stages though, so folk could be a bit more relaxed and free on the mic (obvs not your pish though, thatâd be best reserved for the Laurieston

Forking Litmus
At one point I thought the coin was not part of the orginal vision and was corrected. The coin goes way way back. At the same time someone recently commented that they thought the abandonment of the original vision now was bowing to realism and a great sign of progress. Which is it?
My understanding is obviously dim, I am a child anticipating xmas gifts and thinking I hear little things about what might be under the tree. But that limited understanding suggests that if you canât strip out the coin and the royalty then the project is not FOSS and it has been âunsouledâ almost like a fool court handing some fool an unlimited license to murder knowing the means and intent to do so on a mass scale are there where it looks for all the world like a declaration of open season on the people- a declaration of war on the people by an oligarchy. But maybe not because there was a detail of timing and it was first given to someone who gave the power away but still holds it- assuming any sane people believe one little court can invert the full body of law into crime in one fell swoop like that.
- If it has a royalty it is not free and not FOSS
- If you canât fork out all* undesireable features it is not forkable and not FOSS
- The core of the project canât be the coin and royalty because that would violate the spirit of FOSS which was held out all along.
And its that â2.â potential on poison pilling the FOSS forking function which would look like a betrayal and a farse. I mean even a simpleton like @Warren could understand that no amount of vole style lizzard blooded lawyering will allow a project long billed as the ultimate anti enclosure open access FOSS network to claim its core function or operation was actually a toll road booth or parking meter device or device of enclosure and hence it canât be forked out. It would be like saying here is your ultimate democracy but underneath its a dictatorship like FOSS in name only. No wonder Mo Gawdat said the core human skill or competency in the near future will be recognizing the truth or at least recognizing fabrication. So one more time this kid thinks they are getting a spread sheet or spread sheet engine under the tree but when the day comes they find they find its a Simple Simon game and realize there is no-practical way to convert it into a spread sheet and it has no spread sheet mode and their expectation is violated and they feel the burn of a bait and switch. And when the day comes their cousin (discourse) who they canât stand opens their present for them in front of everyone and all their questions about whatâs going on keep getting referred to that cousin because after all their questions are really boorish. And the kid begins to smell a rat. Just tell them they have FOSS just tell them they have justice.
If they donât delay it we will know in Oct. David should be free then or hopefully is. Whatever comes of this the core ideas have been worked out and explored and that is super valueable and was worth the effort and treasure.
