How to store Maidsafe coins?

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I couldn’t find a definitive answers.
Let’s say I buy using poloniex.com. What next? How do I get them out of the exchange and into a wallet I control?

I saw someone mentioning that they are associated to a bitcoin address, how does that work?
