Improvements on the Updated Network
-Higher Flow of Nanos: We are seeing a good trend with a 20-30% increase in nano rate, though overall numbers are still affected by other issues we’re working on.
-Network Efficiency: At comparable network size, node traffic is down by 10-15%, indicating better efficiency.
These incremental gains are exactly what we want to see, and when combined with improvements in other areas, they result in significant progress.
Two Main Issues Causing Pain
1. Home Nodes Failing to Connect:
-Issue: Relay nodes are conservative, causing home nodes to become unreachable as more nodes try to connect.
-Solution: Relaxing relay server limits and doubling home node relay usage from 2 servers to 4. This solution is currently being tested internally.
2. Network Mismatch:
-Issue: Network updates and upgrades need to work smoothly. The latest switchover has shown remnants of the old network causing performance issues and slower data rates. We need to finetune this to work smoothly and seamlessly once the live network is launched. This is an autonomous network… it’s a living breathing thing composed solely of nodes, operated by all of you, that communicate and interact with one another. Unlike centralised software and platforms, there is no controller in the middle of things to push out updates, or turn things on and off in order to upgrade. The network is entirely assembled through independent autonomous nodes that can do their own thing — including running different versions of the software or operating in unexpected ways. So when you want to upgrade and improve a network like this, it needs to be able to cope with this… and that’s part of the challenge, and part of why we are beta testing and why you are all here! And the latest switchover to the new network has actually allowed us to observe that, because due to a twist of fate there are some remnants of the old network hanging about. And that’s come with some pros and cons!
-Con: It’s caused us a bit of a headache and a few more bugs to iron out… because it’s having an impact on performance, and still dragging down the rate of data which can hit the network (which I know you all feel through lack of nanos!).
-Pro: However it’s also showing that the network is also pretty resilient, and can cope with some stragglers… and it’s allowing us to understand how and why it’s slowing things down, and patch it!
-Solution: We are working on a fix for these issues, to be released as a hot-patch after internal testing.
Referrals and Boosts
-Boosts: We are exploring ways to earn boosts beyond referrals to reward activities that support the network.
-Controversy: We understand the controversy over referral boosts but emphasise the benefits of more people joining Autonomi as the network scales. This will especially benefit people running lots of nodes at official launch (aiming for October).
-Current Referrals: Wave 1 is receiving 1 referral per week, wave 2 is receiving 2 referrals per week, and wave 3 is expected to receive 3 referrals per week.
Waves
-Competition Start: We aim to start the wave 2 competition on Friday, July 19, 2024
-Wave 3: Will open shortly after.
-New Changes: Future waves will be in blocks of 1000 users.
Thank you all for helping us troubleshoot and resolve various issues. We understand it can be frustrating when things don’t work as intended, and we appreciate your efforts. Rest assured, you will be rewarded for running your nodes, even if you haven’t received any nanos yet.
