Core apps developped by the MAIDSAFE team

I am sure that this information can be found somewhere else, but I couldn’t find a recent list. What are the “core apps” that the MAIDSAFE team is planning to release early.

Besides the public and private storage and the SAFE coins, will we have something like instant messaging and “e-mail” in the early days? What else?

Yup, I believe we will.

I think all that’s been said in public is: storage, data sharing, messaging, and wallet. Also plugins for browsers which will allow seamless browsing, and access to third party web apps built on SAFE.

After that i think adding core capabilities for smart contracts and compute services will take a while, and then enable lots of other kinds of app.

With messaging, data sharing, etc, this would be the life stuff app correct? Are life stuff and the client synonymous?

I’m quite sure that we will see SafeX operational immediately or soon. This will allow peer-to-peer exchanges of bitcoin and safecoin, and the possibility of other commerce.

Does messaging mean something like “e-mail” or instant messaging? Or both?

I am so excited about the project!

Interesting timing for this thread, we are actually discussing initial apps this week and will get this added to the roadmap shortly.

The messaging app will not include data sharing in the first instance although you are correct that the proposed lifestuff app came with messaging, data storage and data collaboration. I would see lifestuff as an app and therefore separate from the client.

Hi Nick. I am looking forward to this apps roadmap. Thanks a lot for the good work!

Do you think it would it be practical to market the lifestuff app as if it were a client (including the actual client, perhaps assisting in designating resources to offer to the network during installation) as a way to extend uptake by those who aren’t interested in being familiar with the technical (i.e., those who say “modems” in place of “towers” and think AOL still provides their internet services)?

I saw some updates to the roadmap in jira last night, looks like if agreed upon that messaging will be dev bundle 3. Also your explanation is crystal clear my friend, thank you!

Maybe. I guess we have to make sure that LIfeStuff does not take unfair advantage against other third party apps. I do agree that we have to make the process of install and set up as easy as possible.

Hey Nick, I wondered who is currently developing LifeStuff. I tried to figure but didn´t find the related names. In a way the project seems to be comparable to the concept I presented here and I wondered whether it´s worth to get in touch.

Hey @Artiscience, originally LifeStuff was supposed to be a storage application with in-built messaging, contact management and a calendar as I recall. So different from the social networking app you are working on I think. Our focus is still very much on the core network with very little MaidSafe resource being put toward apps right now, but this will change quite soon I think. IMO. MaidSafe will possibly still use the LifeStuff name and mark, but it is difficult to say exactly what product it will be attached to.

Sounds great, though.

Actually the app I was thinking about is much about storing, sharing, contacts and messaging3, that´s why I thought there are a lot of parallels. So, if I understand you right the project is currently inactive from your point of view? I though David said elsewhere that it will be available with testnet 3. Now with the new roadmap I get totally mixed up with what is going to happen when, so please excuse my confusion, but does that mean we won´t see LifeStuff in the near future?

I think the LifeStuff project is something we will revisit, but not sure in what form yet and I also don’t know when. David’s comments in the thread you point to were more in relation to installers with having some early apps, as opposed to released LifeStuff, at least that’s the way I interpret them. The exact quote is below: .

No problem on the roadmap, we have changed the way we present things. The roadmap really just deals with network specific features, as opposed to apps. Once we are clearer on the app roll out we will incorporate this in. I hope this info helps!

Could we make internet T.V channels? For alternate media coverage/news. A collaborative system that allows someone to merge live feed into a hosts SAFE T.V channel when requested to further expand the channels line up or participate in live discussions. So basically at first it’s just alternative news all day, then a new show or something is added by other members about counter intelligence for instance and so forth until the channel is well populated. We need S.A.F.E Television! Any thoughts?

Another idea is something like the playstation at home service, curio or second life. I think that would be pretty cool. Very interactive and great use of the network. It will definitely draw in the younger demographic and popularize SAFE.

Hey I made a site for apps yesterday, and am updating it so all the logos are clickable with descriptions today.

Check it out!
