Updated SAFE Webring - LIVE AGAIN! (9th March 2016)

Websites which have added the Webring code to their website and uploaded it to SAFE network can join The SAFE Webring which is being updated.

Note: your website must have index.html as the index page.

Visit the webring here: http://the.safewebring.safenet UPDATE - NOW LIVE (9th March)

Click next, previous or random (in the banner).

NOTE: the Webring will not be available for some time after a network reset because all websites will need to be uploaded again, and then a request made to me to include them in the new Webring, which I must then upload again.

To submit your website for the webring:

**UPDATE: The first Webring reached 12 websites - thank you to everyone who contributed! These have now all been wiped! :tired_face: I’m sure we can beat that figure :slight_smile: **

NOTE: If you were in the first Webring, I won’t repost your website until you have uploaded to the new testnet and asked again to be included in the new Webring.

Tuesday 8th March: I’m very busy again, so will try but can’t promise to include every website posted, or how soon, but if people post by Wednesday midday I’ll try my best to include you (see note about content below)

Content suitable for this Webring: since in effect I am hosting the Webring I have decided to ask you to keep the content acceptable to a wide range of people who might stumble upon your website. It would be different if they were looking for content using a search engine, or following a link that indicates what they are about to visit. But this is part of the public face of SAFEnetwork and the content we provide to show it around will reflect of the community and the project, so I think it is important we consider this. I expect people will want to show the Webring to their friends, and I want this Webring to be something people feel OK to share with friends, family, strangers etc. - I showed my elderly mum for example. So please respect my request and keep your Webring submissions suitable for everyone’s friends, family, and others of all ages, genders, philosophy, sock colour etc. For the avoidance of any doubt, cat videos may or may not be acceptable :smile_cat:

If anyone doesn’t like this, please take it up with me, but respect my request here. The last Webring was great fun, and IMO a great success and a credit to this community as well as nice way to show off the SAFEnetwork project. Let’s do it again! And again! And again during testing, so we can all show it off far and wide :slight_smile: Thanks again for all those contributions.

The first SAFE Webring got up to 12 websites - and would have been more if I’d had time to update it again. Apologies you those who posted a link that I didn’t get time to include.

Details of what you need to do are in How To Join The SAFE Webring

As I’m sure everyone has been waiting for with baited breath… Lazy Dog is back! :wink:

Now that I can upload the entire directory in Ubuntu, I can actually update the content easily with Pelican. I should be able to add the webring code now.

With only one submission by midday I’m just going to bump this topic once here and see if we have any enthusiasm for putting the Webring up again. If not I’ll retire it and close the topics in a few days.

We did it though - just like the early nineties of www!

Ahh, the memories. :slight_smile:

I remember finding a URL in a mailing list and sticking it into a browser on a Sun Workstation. Website addressess were like scarce keys to rooms dotted across the planet then. You stumbled on them and pushed open the door they fitted… usually to see a plain grey page with black Times Roman text, and if you were lucky some blue links, and maybe some links to other websites!!! Alta-vista hadn’t even been thought of.

I remember a moment of awe when one of those links was to a “.jp” website. I sat there gazing gobsmacked and trying to take in that the information being presented on my screen was really travelling magically from the other side of the world, in real time, and was appearing there in front of me. Just me, because I asked for it. What a moment! This year I will visit that far away place, more than twenty years after it first became a place I could touch, through a web browser :slight_smile:

@safer I think you messed up the link in music.safenet:

<script type="text/javascript" src="music/http://the.safewebring.safenet/webring.js"></script>

Thanks! Fixed!

Have I included the webring code included correctly? http://quotations.curiouspeach.safenet

nearly :wink:

you could add the line
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://the.safewebring.safenet/webring.js"></script>
right above </head>
and change <body> to <body onload="wrJoinWebring()">

if you did everything right the webring will appear on top of your page

edit: it probably should look like this

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=ISO-8859-1" />
<meta name="author" content="curiouspeach" />
<meta name="keywords" content="" />
<title>
</title>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://the.safewebring.safenet/webring.js"></script>
</head>
<body onload="wrJoinWebring()">

I’m travelling today so won’t be able to update for a few hours, if at all, but I will do so and “like” your links when done.

Thanks to everyone contributing! :slight_smile:

Thank you. I’ve edited it as you suggest.

No safenet sites will load in my Chrome browser.

I have the SAFE launcher v0.4.0 installed and the demo app v0.2.1 installed on my Windows 7 laptop. I installed them on March 10th. I registered and created a public ID.

There is no need for a browser plugin right? I am using latest version of Chrome, and I get a DNS lookup error when I try the link in the browser:

This webpage is not available
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN
The server at the.safewebring.safenet can’t be found, because the DNS lookup failed.

did you do this: https://maidsafe.readme.io/v1.0/docs/proxy-setup

I don’t think you’ve uploaded the edited file - there’s no webring code in it.

Anyone who has correctly inserted the webring code will see a light blue banner across the top of their page when they view it on SAFEnetwork.
