Curry night? Can we come?
Now that is a very good point. An upvote for you, Sir!
Yes, I see the points below about people running multiple nodes so it’s not 17,000 unique machines or connections to the internet. But that’s exactly the case with Bitcoin and Ethereum. And they tend to be in datacentres not people’s houses these days so that is way worse than our situation. And our number of nodes is just the start…
I hope that helps…

Another consideration is that the BTC and ETH nodes have a reasonable amount of centralisation in areas where electricity is cheapest. Don’t know the figures but you hear so often about how the node operators seek out the ultra cheap electricity areas to locate their nodes.
I wonder just how much that centralisation (region wise) is. Like China who could easily stop BTC/ETH mining with their great firewall. How many nodes are operated by them? Then how many are co located in close by “office buildings” being given cheap rates by the electricity companies. It’d be interesting to see how many nodes can be taken out by cutting off 3 or 4 of these cheap electricity regions?
But I do agree that Autonomi nodes compared to BTC/ETH nodes is not a fair comparison in terms of unqualified numbers. Cannot even say 100 Autonomi nodes is equivalent to one BTC node because its a difference in decentralisation.
The real comparison for decentralisation is numbers of unrelated operators. And here I think that Autonomi will crush BTC/ETH figures. Also how many BTC nodes are just nodes keeping the database for other uses, like an exchange so they can query the blockchain in a fast manner but are not mining?
This .
I wonder how we stack up against Pi Network so far. Not the biggest fan but I know so many average people who have been mining on their phones and performing tasks for years now and the official Pi token STILL hasn’t launched.
Just wait till we can track how much data we’re storing, @mav will be all over it.
quite possibly due to a failure to connect to the initial bootstrap peers, they became overwhelmed. We have a new contact file up with dedicated peers in it. (As of ~16 hours ago)
If you started nodes before that you will need to reset the launchpad (or remove the idle node services if using the manager), and readd them. They should then pickup the new contacts file.
(Changes are coming to improve this further)
@loziniak Thanks for the peers offer!
After seeing the impact on dedicated nodes at the moment, i’m hesistant to put the burden on the community just yet.
We’re aiming to produce non-relay nodes that can act as bootstrap peers (which will have a looot less to do then).
When we have that out I think we’ll be in a better place to put more bootstrap weight on more nodes.
Almost certainly one bootstrap node will impede the performance of your other nodes as things stand.
The same sort of way that the total number of nodes in the network is tracked.
Get a large number of nodes and average the number of active chunks they hold then multiply by the estimated number of nodes and divide by 5 (replication number). That gives you an estimate of the number of different chunks in the network.
For an estimate of quantity of data then use storage used by the active chunks in each of those nodes rather than the number of chunks.
Thanks for the update team. And congrats on the beta launch!!
I expect everyone is super busy now with monitoring and such - so thanks for the continued hard work ahead.
Quick question - is there a faucet anymore or is that gone completely? And if it’s gone, is there any way for those of us who aren’t getting rewards via discord to upload to the network?
Cheers
Gone.
Those not supplying a discord ID to the launcher or --owner option will keep their tokens earned and can use those for uploading. Uploads are being done by maidsafe
Later on when the testing of the MAID to token exchange process occurs people will be able to use the test tokens generated by that. Still test tokens and exchange will still occur at genesis
What is the official name of the Autonomi tokens?
I wish I knew! We won’t know likely till official live network and listing.
I saw that they were calling the rewards for beta testers Nanos, so I thought that might be it.
Nano is referring to the decimal place.
Since the token has no transaction fees it allows for beyond microtransaction, and instead nanotransactions. Assuming the token gets valued quite high as well everyone has been counting in nanos!
Optimistic and ambitious bunch, we are.
Everyone who has been here for nearly a decade can only be described as optimistic.
Exactly. With an ounce of knowledge the tech should be possible
I’m hoping for ANT … however there are three other ANT tokens listed by coinmarketcap … so maybe they won’t go there.
Hate to be that guy but is it at some point a priority to call nodes Autonomi nodes instead of safe nodes and change from safe to autonomi through the codebase/GitHub?
Not nagging or anything just curious if that is on the radar. Seems like it might be important when there is more focus on API and documentation.
Whenever, as long as its before the last beta turning into live
Jippy super ants finally the Big b
Keep coding/hacking/testing super ants
Earlier is going to be better because firstly, it is confusing whenever someone arrives and sees two conflicting names for things which creates a barrier to understanding, trust and curiosity, and therefore to adoption. That’s not a big deal right now, but matters and the effect will be bigger as more people are arriving. Secondly the later you do it the more confusing it will be to more people.
I’m not convinced Autonomi are planning to make that change because if they were, they should really have done it right away.
