Yes, tauri. I have never worked with it before, but once you set up basics, it is simple.
where to download? thx
nowhere yet, I will publish it on github in 1-2 weeks. Unfortunately I do not have much time for that now.
Great work.
The effect is very similar to dweb, particularly when I remove the dweb serve step.
I like that weāre all pushing hard to make this easier for users and learning how best to do this in the process.
I particularly like that you offer those options, so folk who need it can use Tor.
Worth noting though @Lisa_Brown that you only need to follow those steps to get setup once. Thereafter it is simples to view dweb awesomeness.
Take 15 minutes to set yourself up and then you can explore whats happening for yourself and you will get a far better answer than asking on here how far from āthereā are we.
Right now there is a tiny community of folk hanging out on Autonomi via Atlas, this has taken many years as you have pointed out and you can be one of the first.
It would be great to see you there!
Good point, but she does make a valid point that other new users will want to just install an app and go.
I thought the proxy setup was super easy in Firefox (literally a few clicks and copy/paste, at least on Ubuntu), but it was met with resistance.
It looks like @Herodotos has coded a nice UI to remove this step and also provide more security features and flexibility, which is exactly what we need.
As devs, I do think we have a tendency to make something quite easy to use, knowing that with more time, it could be made very easy. So, we donāt panic, and just work away.
For non-devs, itās hard for them to see whether it can be made easy or whether it is a hard blocker. So, they panic/stress a bit that the thing will never be usable.
Ofc, proof of the pudding is in the eating. When those raw apps are refined and combined with UIs, installers, app stores, etc, then it becomes easy and everyone is happy. I think we are getting there, step by step.
From the wider community looking in, they should start to understand the dev perspective though. They should be able to see the promise, beyond the rough edges. This should encourage more app building and more streamlining of the lower levels. That should really start to turbo charge progress on the app front.
I maintain that relative to competitors in the crypro space, the cross sections autonomi covers, and the depth of abilities across the board, Autonomi stands out as a platform to build on. Iām certain more and more folks will see this too now.
Will be one of the questions in Trivia Pesuit in 10 years time.
Name the first 10 people to post on Atlas?
there are still 3 places left to be in that elite cohort ![]()
Hey you community devs, I get that things will become easier, but whatās your view on speed? Especially with scratchpads etc. Will things get quicker too?
I have a few thoughts on this.
- Download bandwidth/throughput is good and has remained so from my observations. Seems easy to get 200 mbit/s (around 25 MB/s) on my connection. Plenty enough for 4K streaming.
- Download latency (to completely download < 200 KB files) has increased a bit (about double) what it was a few weeks ago, after a fresh release. 1-3s vs about 0.5-1.5s, but still pretty quick.
- Uploads to mutables can be a bit slow, with it sometimes taking over a minute to complete.
- Uploads of public archives can take a couple of minutes with, say, 10 files in them.
- Scratchpads updates seemed to be quick from other folks (like sub 1s), but Iāve not experimented much with them yet.
I expect all of the above to improve as the network matures. The LCN changes will no doubt improve all of the above metrics.
In the interim, for uploads, performing them async , with some smart caching, can mask the latency from client apps. They essentially become eventually consistent, with the impression that they are immediately consistent (with the autonomi network).
I suspect there will always be some sort of delay for uploads and maybe the async approach may become unnecessary, but UX is latency sensitive, and a snappy/instance response goes a long way, even if the reality is a little slower.
Just wondering what effect this has on markets
Does it create some kind of bondind (maybe loose) from ANT to ETH? I mean if eth rises, it will create more demand to ANT and would cause also ANT to rise?
I also wonder if it will allow the payment on the L2 chain to be in larger amounts and actually reduce overall fees needed to be paid?
My suspicion is that making it easier to spend what youāve earned, would increase demand for both ANT and ETH, while increasing demand for storage too.
Would be good to understand the dynamics at play for sure.
If I wanted to use Autonomi to shift my archive of old photos and videos from apple or google cloud to autonomi, what tool should I be keeping my eye on? How far out are we from being able to do this: a year? A few months?
One or more of the Impossible Futures projects might suit your needs.
There is one for straight backups, there is another āColonyā that might be what you are after.
They are meant to be deploying a initial version by July 17th this year.
I just did my largest test using a self built cli which already has many of the features that will be in the next official release.
I uploaded 20Gb archive over night in one attempt uploads are very much good to go from now on ![]()
---- edit
worth a mention this test was from my home network with 750 nodes running on it not from a cloud vps plumbed straight into the internet ![]()
That is amazing news! Just out of curiosity, what did that 20G upload cost in gas and ANT?
I never kept track ant was negligible eth could have been over $20 I am about to rack up for round two ill keep track this time of what the costs are.
round two I am going to go from a cloud vps to see how many payments my nodes receive as I think due to hair pinning they were not able to get paid for any of the chunks ![]()
Seems absurd. Native token canāt come too soon.
Edit: Thatās Autonomiās economic value leaking out via blockchain toilet.
yes we all agree. for permanent storage its not that expensive but it is very sad that $$ is not going straight to the node runners.
native will come this is another step along the path to the promised land ![]()
18Gb $19 in Gas fees ant is almost free the amount is so small
