Could rising prices come frome the fact, that MaidSafe are uploading regardless of price, so nodes get wild on that? It’s like state printing money

I have had 22 nodes up for more than 24 hours. Four has records, between 15-33 chunks and they all charge 10 nanos.
Very small. And even if that unlucky, does anyone have nodes actually charging that much?
Folks, especially @aatonnomicc, what are the top and bottom prices of your nodes?

It’s beyond that, but they are doing brilliant.
We do support it, but honestly we all only have 2 hands and 1 head.
We are still in get the base working, it’s hard work but worth every bead of sweat. slack discord and discourse (all of them) are mental and many many support requests and feature requests. We will get to what we can and Mark’s work is super important to us.
It’s just time.

I do see nodes with increased quotes for storage… But that’s a super small fraction of nodes…
What are the chances you really hit such nodes with your 4 chunks…? Might someone with a really large amount of nodes be running a modified price curve…?

I know David as you always have. I think my own frustration is that I haven’t had a clear response about this. I have been told several times don’t worry we’ll sort it, but without clarity on what is intended. To me it has seemed that this meant we’ll enable people to sweep their spare nanos. I understand that might seem a way to ensure realistic economics, but clarity would be helpful.
I’m not working like the team, but I have been working hard to get this working to give the beta something real to show, and to enable everyone to see its potential by using it and publishing on it.
It must be really frantic for all of you and I am glad it is going so well. I know what it is like and want to say thank you to everyone of them for what we don’t see. I hope they are appreciating what they’ve already achieved. It’s amazing to watch.

Anyway, I can see things seem to be getting there. Not just the incredible number of nodes but earnings, DAG, rank bot and fingers crossed, upload prices getting more real.
I think that pricing spike will be an issue that needs looking into at some point. Maybe not all nodes are participating equally and a small number are really doing most of the work storing and quoting?
Update on awe (the name of my demo)
Interestingly the price for my remaining chunks, while still high has come down to about 1/3 of the estimate from last night:
Transfer cost estimate: 0.000000623 (last night was 2000 not 623).
So with another thousand nanos I might should have enough to show publish the demo for people to test and play with. Though I’d really like them to have enough nanos themselves to publish rather than just browse - though that would still be awesome.
At this price I probably need another 1,500 or so nanos. That is a lot to ask people to take out of their rank earnings but I’ve been blown away by receiving more than twice that without asking. I never expected people would want to help so much so even when I thought a couple of hundred would do it I didn’t ask. But several people demanded a donation address!

Curiouser and curiouser… I decided to have a go with the upload and it appears that there’s a big difference between the estimate and the actual price:
The estimate for all remaining chunks was (as above) 623. But the upload failed with:
Failed to store website content. Not enough balance in wallet to pay for chunk. We have NanoTokens(764) but need NanoTokens(781) to pay for the chunk
So there’s 781 for one chunk while the estimate was 623. 
There might only be one chunk left of that batch, I’m not sure.
EDIT2:
As the price seemed as if it was coming down I tried again but the pricing is still way too high. I think there are about 15 chunks left in the batch that was quoted at 623 nanos. But when I retried the upload the first chunk cost 718 (764-46) and the next is 1463!

The incentive to trick the system is certainly there now that there is real economical gain to have. But as there’s the intermediary via Discord etc. and a possibility for the team to weed out foul players, it’s might not be that lucrative…

It crossed my mind but I don’t think its feasible. Randomness and picking the lowest quote should prevent that.

I thought it was feasible with a thousand but sadly it’s not. See edits to the post. Single chunks are being charged a way more than that.

So I have 46 nanos left and it still looks unrealistic to test apps like this.
Oddly the estimate is still misleading, now at 1,305 for (I think 16 chunks) two less chunks than the earlier estimate which was 623 for more chunks.

When @aatonnomicc uploaded beg blag he got quotes of 10 and was charged 80 or 90 for some chunks… My guess is that currently selection of 4he the cheapest quote is not done atm for the sake of speed …

Its not just hitting 4 nodes but 20 since the close group to the chunk is being asked for quotes and the client is supposed to pick the lowest price
Unless they can be all the close nodes around a good number of chunks being uploaded then it will backfire on them because the clients will pick the cheaper nodes close to the chunk and the manipulator will get less because no client will pick them
Not sure of the speed savings since when uploading the client requests quotes off all 5 of the close nodes as indicated in the logs.
NOTE: I have used the information given that the cheapest will be used. But maybe they are testing using the most expensive for some super unknown reason against all that we hold dear in the universe. Or maybe they give 42 nanos if its not a client ran by Maidsafe

I wanted to be ready for that too but I def see that it’s more likely as we get more user friendly nodes to or even slightly beyond wave 3, that will be the time we can showcase and have some tangible stuff.
Gotta think not that long ago it was hard to even participate from home at all and the networks were barely around a few thousand nodes. We hit a few tens of thousands in short order with a bunch of new participants curious what to do next!
I think just keeping nodes going and letting @maidsafe go through logs and tweak for the next month or so will probably be necessary before we even get much more, functionally at least.
Sounds like more dashboard type stuff on the close horizon etc. It’s a crazy time. It’ll def be crazier (in a good way) soon!

Ive been out of the loop since the start of the beta - Greek islands beat Geek desk - so maybe I missed it - but is there a list of available downloads?
I cant get over the notion that this “testing” is unrealistic cos its all about providing nodes and not about the real purpose of the network - storage and retrieval of data done safer and better than ever before.
I am still convinced that those who for whatever reason cannot run nodes right now can still assist by retrieving what data is on these nodes.
We can talk about uploading and the costs later… but +1 to giving @happybeing a wee help here

I mean we know with test networks that storage works mostly as intended.
I would assume with a large from home network that perfecting connections come before storage.
Just my guess though. Hopefully things come along nicely and then we can actually play on the network soonish!

We are just taking it step by step for now, and being somewhat controlled.
To his credit @joshuef is being very patient with my “Can we turn it up yet? Can we? Caaaaannn weeee?” requests.
And we will get there… and there is more data incoming, but having the control of a steady rate at this point is quite helpful for benchmarking, seeing what is going on, optimising, and squashing bugs before we start unleashing things.
I know it is frustrating just at the moment, and how many of you are itching to start creating. But stay with us. This is quite a different beast now from the rapid fire testnets, and we are learning loads that we just couldn’t before!
