Especially the word SAFE in the context of money and data… two things people like to keep safe lol.
The name and acronym are an amazing platform, but how do we present them and is there anything that can be added to them?
The ants have been appropriated into safenet imagery, should they continue to be? I don’t know, maybe they illicit questions and maybe they do help explain the network and its origins, but from a cynical and cut-throat perspective I think we can do better than ants… chris’ suggestion of making it all about the coin seemed more likely to have a big impact, but even if we don’t go for that greed and btc piggyback angle is there nothing better we can come up with in terms of design or mascots for marketing appeal etc?
Really? Explain that to me? Marketing agencies look for words that bring clarity to a brand without having to use a paragraph to explain it. Marketing agencies will not use 4 letter words that can be misconstrued. Marketing agencies spend a lot of money on focus groups that decide whether a word can be made to easily ID a product. The word SAFE was synonymous with prophylactic for a very long time. How many ways is the word SAFE used as a descriptor? (hint: Its a long list)
To be fair, I was responding to your argument that the name should explain clearly what it is. My point is that is doesn’t have to. Of course a big marketing budget helps a lot but even without it, people will understand what Safe means in the context where it will be used.
yes fair enough… we just need to think in terms of grabbing people’s attention and conveying a message in a split second, not with minutes of explanation and thought from them.
I love the ants personally, I get the history and David’s obsession and the inspiration, I just think if we’re talking ‘marketing’ then they are definitely up for discussion… SAFE and ‘privacy, security, freedom’ are obvs keepers in my book.
I’d see them as a part of the Project stage, demonstrating network resiliency…I think they have a place in the nerdy handouts you’d get at a Dev conference for example, explaining personas.
Well, it’s not like we’ll see a big billboard on the side of the street with the word Safe on it. You won’t see adds on TV for Safe. There will always be a context relevant to the nature of Safe whenever someone will see it the first time. It’s not gonna be a random event out of blue.
Absolutely not. You have 3 seconds to tell the audience what you have. 3 seconds. After that you’re toast and every nickle you spent on customer acquisition is lost. This is a science and if you dont understand that you need to.
I think it´s hard to compare the Apple logo with “Project SAFE”. I think the Apple worked very well because for most people it was obvious that Apple sold Computers and they knew (at least rudimentarily) what a Computer is. This way the logo worked for the brand. Either people didn´t care - for those the enterprise was simply easy to recognize - or they were slightly irritated and questioned the apple, just to get served with the story of Adam and Eve. I think it is one of the many brilliant things Apple did. “Project SAFE” is neither emblematic nor has it a subtle message. I think “SAFE” only works well even though I don´t like acronyms a lot, because it stresses the security aspect. It´s also easy to combine with other words, which is a big plus if you want people to use the name as part of their projects.
@dirvine Sorry for sounding as if didn´t knew that ;). I tried to look at it from the perspective of someone who doesn´t know the project. I think the acronym speaks very well for itself - it´s just that personally I don´t like them that much. But yes, I don´t think anyone really wants to debate SAFE. I also believe that @BIGbtc questioned the “project”, am I right?
The vast majority of stuff written by Maidsafe is strongly to the technical side, which is fine for Core/App Devs and attracting big tech money. The driver of any economy in the world is small and increasingly micro business, these guys are held down by the government/ corporate cartel…it’s time for the mom and pop stores to rise again
Let’s say I’m going to be an educator to this sector, what have I got to work with so far, what resources are being provided for me to talk to this group. This group will want to know how the market economy is going to work and how the apps have an edge over the cloud based tools their using now.
The velocity of Safecoin is what drives this network, just like the regular economy. Safecoin is the incentive mechanism which is enabled by the constituent parts.
It’s now time to put focus into the safecoin economy, the nerdy stuff will take care of it’self…Bitcoin has already done that for us, bringing a whole new class of devs into the space.
So what are you branding…a network or a safecoin economy, the enabler or the enabled.
I don’t think anyone is questioning the SAFE bit here, it’s just how we accomplish even more in that split second of the first introduction. SAFE does a lot and it’s all good… like scary good imo, but that doesn’t mean we can’t add to that with logo and font decisions, mascot, god knows…
SAFEcoin does give us a lot of free, sexy bonuses that SAFEnetwork doesn’t really have.
Hard one though, it is so much more than the coin. I know btc is too, but still.
Really if the blockchain is our communal immutable memory then SAFEnet/coin will be our private immutable memory. From that perspective I do like Net more… was there not some issue with SAFEnet being taken though and us having to use SAFEnetwork?
From marketing angel SAFEcoin wins in a lot of ways imo.
