Why not have the coin be the symbol with a circle around it representing an actual coin. It then is visually distinctive from say the “s” use for network. But of course we are after brand here not so much symbol.[quote=“chrisfostertv, post:101, topic:9424”]

Then we need to run it elsewhere. Is there a polling site that can be closed to only a group?
symbol/brand so very closely intertwined.
Yes I can see that I have not made that particularly clear, Chris. For me a brand is the feelings that are evoked within your audience when they see and here about your brand. So while at this stage we are looking to establish a logo, it is important that we go beyond just designing a thing that doesn’t get to the root of what the network stands (values, belief, vision, potentially a strapline…etc… Apologies for the confusion.
Looks like secret polls are available on discourse: https://blog.discourse.org/2015/08/improved-polls-in-discourse/
Worth having a look [quote=“neo, post:102, topic:9424”]

I’m not sure why it’s set to be visible like that, It could be a setting on the backend.
This still doesn´t change the double-/triple-/n-account issue. I suggest not to curate a bounty for such votings.
And to add to that, the feeling that is evoked by the brand ID also plays a major part in what a potential logo should look like. Sure, you can just use the first letter of the name to be THE major part of the logo, but it’s better if the logo can already transport what the Brand is about. I think these two go hand in hand and since this is such a complicated topic for people not familiar with it, it does make sense to establish a good brand AND logo.
Do you have an example we could reference that does this well?
That’s excellent if we can get that enabled @frabrunelle
They have not implemented secret polls yet
This is one example: Olympic symbols - Wikipedia. Quoting from the wiki:
The primary symbol of the Olympic Games is composed of five interlocking rings, coloured blue, yellow, black, green, and red on a white field, known as the “Olympic rings.” The symbol was originally designed in 1912 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, co-founder of the modern Olympic Games. According to Coubertin, the ring colors with the white background stand for those colors that appeared on all the national flags that competed in the Olympic games at that time. Upon its initial introduction, Coubertin stated the following in the August 1912 edition of Olympique:[6]
“…the six colors [including the flag’s white background] combined in this way reproduce the colors of every country without exception. The blue and yellow of Sweden, the blue and white of Greece, the tri- colors of France, England and America, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Hungary, the yellow and red of Spain next to the novelties of Brazil or Australia, with old Japan, and new China. Here is truly an international symbol.”
The emblem of the union was two interlaced rings (like the vesica piscis typical interlaced marriage rings) and originally the idea of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung: for him, the ring symbolized continuity and the human being.[7]
So while it is a visual representation (logo) it represents the inclusiveness of the Olympic movement.
Ah yes I get it now…thanks.
Safe Access For Everyone and a logo
I thought Shona was re-jigging the wee plane for that
If someone has time to look into a way of polling without the cumulative results being available please let us know.
The problem is 2 fold, the first being to not show the results until closed and the second is to limit it forum members only.
The other related problem that we cannot control is a person having multiple forum accounts.
A possible solution is for a (special) forum account to be created that only yourself has access to and people PM their selection to that account then have it tallied. You can choose someone to do the tally if you don’t have time. Then at the end its tallied and you present the results. Access can be given to the 5 committee members to audit the results.
Not direclty related to the conversation:
. safecoin is a currency, and apart from bitcoin, a currency does not have a ‘logo’; it has a symbol used for designation and measurement.
. The network on the other hand is a product, and until becomes the nameless fabric of our every day interactions with computers, a logo/branding will be useful to visually aggregate values and ideas we want to communicate with it.
I am not sure we are yet in a good position to assess whether the current safecoin logo is suitable to represent the network. With the brief though, it will be very easy to tell whether it is or not, only if by matching one by one each values/ideas against it.
That being said, and because we do not have the brief yet, here are the things I like/less like about the current safecoin logo
++ the white S emerges from the 2 colored branches: the network is not something physical, but is the result of several independant actors working together.
++ the branches do not touch each other: the network requires active participation and work from its actors, while warranting their safety and freedom.
– limiting the emerging S shape to 2 branches does not emphasize enough the decentralized aspect.
– the bumping part of the branches (that which forms the central part of the S) lacks meaning aside from helping identifying the white area as an S.
– the central ideas of “safety” and “everyone” do not come out from this design… not easy to do though, as I awkwardly tried to show before.
– the font used for writing ‘safecoin’ does not relate enough to the logo (expect for its color).
I’m the one that flagged that the poll is not secret and in the interest of getting it moving I’ll put my hand up for letting it slide…there’s no nefarious outcome either way.
I’d even say, if it’s something as simple as SAFE - ‘Safe Access For Everyone’ with a logo to match, then go ahead and design…it’s the core we’ve had all along and allows anyone to add a suffix.
What say you guys?
Doh! how quickly I forget: Project SAFE ~ Privacy. Security. Freedom there it is, already done…what else do we need? Put the 750 back in yer pocket Nick
(Don’t) Find me on the SAFE Network.
That’s what just popped up seeing the Project SAFE shirt. It’s a slogan I can see on a mug, shirt or customized Safe Launcher, in a proper ‘SAFE Network’ design.
A variation.
Find me on SAFE, or not.
It emphasizes the personal choice for privacy.
hmmmm - there is no safenet-fanshop yet - is there …?
i want this t-shirt (or maybe a version in black +bright font…?) Oo and a coffee mug! :-\
