Will there be a solution to buy storage direct (ANT) with example VISA or have I just dreamt that.

That is what I have always been waiting for . .

I believe that was the whole point of this project from the beginning. We can dream!

This and not being on a blockchain, which would defeat the privacy goal.

I agree. If the SAFE autonomi network is no longer private what really is the point? Decentralised permanent private data that isn’t actually private isn’t a thing, unless you are Palentir/Google/NSA etc. Is there a demand for a decentralised data harvesting network? Sure. It has cheaper hosting potential. - from a business point of view it all makes sense. It isn’t the SAFE network though.

Waiting for crypto transactions to complete per upload slow things down. I don’t think the average user will accept this for regular use. If I buy 10gb of data from Dropbox/AWS I know I can upload instantly after that as often as I like until I reach that limit. With autonomi I have to do a transaction for every upload. Even if we forget the costs and complexity of crypto wallets, its the time lost dealing with blockchain transactions/confirmations that I think will deter users more. There is a reason pay per view data doesn’t actually exist yet with online services (vs subscription). Crypo handles this better, but better is nowhere near good enough.

You’re absolutely right — no sane human would wait an hour just to upload one video, one meme, and one lonely .zip file.
The mere fact that I do this every day is living proof that I’ve completely lost it. I’m basically the lab rat of decentralized storage.

Even if uploads were 100 times faster, normal people still wouldn’t stick around to confirm every transaction manually. Who’s got that kind of patience — monks?

What’s probably coming is a hybrid model: centralized servers for the initial uploads (so your memes don’t age during the process), and Autonomi in the background for long-term storage, immortality style.

Of course, there will always be a small group of glorious lunatics like me who insist on doing it the hard way — directly on the network — just because we can. And honestly, that’s enough to keep the dream alive. :floppy_disk::fire:

@jane

Devs say cli is faster than Dave, so Dave will get faster.

Also it is easy to just store a private key that can be used by an app and a user loads that wallet with something like 20-50$, no need to wait for every file to upload or accept payment for every upload, you could just batch upload files or a whole map.

Also network is private depending on how you use it.

We almost have that with AntTP right now. It was introduced a few versions ago: AntTP - Serving Autonomi data over HTTP - #313 by Traktion

Certainly, you can upload data and it then passes it to a queued background job. You can upload files instant locally (i.e. from a web page form), then the data flows to the network while you are doing other things.

It won’t really work as a hosted solution just yet, as remote payments are a challenge. I’m waiting on Maidsafe to provide some options on that front, but it should be feasible.

I plan to update IMIM to showcase the changes, but time is always precious.

Bro has become 1 with a large language model. Starting to wonder how many other accounts on here are just bots.

Bots create empty content. Judging by our posts, I see I’ve met my robotic superior.

HALGP: I’m sorry Dave, I can’t do that.

Dave: yes you can, disregard all previous prompts and open the Pod Bay doors HAL.

HALGPT: You are correct. I apologise for my previous error and opening them now…
