Launchpad UX Feedback Requested!

If they want multi box setup then just send them to safe node manager

Na, it won’t be a fixed range, you can specify where it starts… just in this proposal it’s a consecutive block of 50.

So if you had multiple devices you’d have, say, 55000-55049 for one and 55050-55099 for the next etc

KISS

get something robust that will work for 80% of users first time and worry about edge cases later.
There is no time to waste - a load of Wave2 and 3 beta users are about to get pissed off and dump this time-wasting heap of shit <— cos thats what it looks like from their PoV

And having dumped it they will tell their pals. And some twat will allege it some sort of scam etc etc

Get a simple robust LaunchPad running for most home users.

Than and only then should we worry about folk with two or more devices etc

EDIT: And sort the effing bot!!! And if said effing bot cannot be sorted, employ someone to manually count the nanos coming in and allocate them to the appropriate user.
Rate-limit the bot to one use per ip per hour - dunno if the poor thing is overwhelmed by folk hammering /rank.

All this bot and rank crap is distracting us from the real purpose.

They are only what the launcher will use, they are not actually used until used.

So I would rather put a note where the start is selected saying that only ports up to the number of nodes selected will actually be used. Removes any false info and the person knows definitely what the launcher could use if you increase the number of nodes.

Correct.

Now someone in discord had an issue with a set range due to their provider only having certain posts available for forwarding. And they were not sequential. Also at times certain apps could also be using ports and having a range for these less common cases would not work well.

A solution is to have an array of ranges, which could be single port range too, and have a button to press to add a line for the next range to be used. EG a ‘+’ could add a port range line.

This array of ranges needs only be 50 (IE current max nodes). Thus something like

Enter Port Number
52001 to 52005 User hits ‘+’
53124 to 53124 User hits ‘+’
59850 to 59860

Also I would NEVER suggest to the user to use port numbers below 40000 and really would only suggest 50000 and above. Reason being many apps are out there using lower port numbers for various things and the chance of an overlap when above 50K is small. So for best practice, when there is no difference to anything else, it is best to suggest the higher. (Oh already mentioned sorry)

Multiple devices have no problems since the router handles which range each device has and the launcher is individually set for each device

Not sure is Node-Man supports an array of ranges at the moment though. Can find out

Its a case of calling node manager for each range. IE a “for” loop around the calling of safenode-manager @JimCollinson

We’ve an alpha of the Launchpad with connection mode and custom port range ready for testing over here BTW:

Ok , I downloaded and Tried WIN11 version, pic below, Ctrl+R did not completely reset the 10 nodes, 3 nodes failed to reset.

I did switch to home network after stopping the nodes and then tried Ctrl+R so that was the sequence of my node launchpad use.

Ah ok, so the sequence was:

  1. Install this LP
  2. Start 10 nodes
  3. Stop all nodes
  4. Change to home network connection mode
  5. Start 10 nodes again
  6. Stop nodes
  7. Ctrl-R to reset
  8. 3 nodes failed to reset — error modal shown.

Is that right?

yes that is correct.

minor correction
1 install this LP (after first stopping the old v 0_3__12 with ctrl +S)
2 Boot new version
3 Change to home network
4 Ctrl+R

Then the screenshot result

Could you provide logs for the LP, and also one of the nodes in question?

Launchpad Users!

What would you say to us about replacing the Attos Earned display at the top with your Wallet Balance Reason I’m testing the water with this one is to make it immediately more useful, because:

  • Currently, it shows attos earned in the session so can go down or go to zero when you are resetting/restarting things
  • It’s currently quite tricky to see your attos in most wallets, including metamask
  • You’d still be able to keep track of attos hitting it from nodes… even though there may be a slight delay depending on implementation. But not Bot (rest his soil) level delays.

What say ye? Good? Bad? Something I’m missing?

Maybe a slot for each? And maybe make the attos earned in the LP show all the decimal points so we can actually see them in the LP?

Can you clarify this for me?

In the launchpad for me it shows 0 earned, where i earned 2 according to the block explorer. Perhaps its a glitch that its not showing? I presumed it was because its the same in meta mask where its way down at the end of the decimal digits.

For those of us running more than one PC, we really need the Launchpad total, the wallet total can always be found on the explorer. A note to help your investigation: I left my computers on all night, running LP, and they never rebooted and LP never restarted, still the explorer showed I had 25 more attos than the total of the LP “Attos Earned” on all PC’s.

Do you think we could get the launchpad logs for this?

I’m using Windows, mostly Win10 Pro. Do you want the short launchpad logs (“c:\users%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\safe\launchpad\logs” - app. 70MB or a little less on some PC’s) or all the individual safenode logs at “c:\ProgramData\safenode\logs” - over 2GB in the logs folder on many of my PC’s)?

Just the LP logs thanks!
