Is this a network ready for launch?

…or the start of a roll-out?

I know this is “just a test” but it shows the dangers of wishful thinking and driving towards deadlines rather than taking the time that is needed.

This has been a very difficult year out in the wilderness for me, banging on about less important issues. Then seeing the project veer off course without warning, without knowing why, and again without involving the community - who have years of wisdom to give - until the decisions were taken.

Wishful thinking is the biggest risk right now IMO, wanting to believe, not looking for the problems but away from them.

That is too much guessing without evidence at all to point to that. Its almost certain that it is unintended effects as a result of the parameters set. Similar to startup effects of this network and the one it replaced. We have to remove jumping to “user error” and “malicious user” to explain away issues in test networks. It is a testing network to find out these issues

Instead of writing in rhymes can you just call a spade a spade.

I’ve no idea what you’re trying to say here or who is to blame for your dissapointment in the way the project is going.

I’ve read other posts from you and they are all similarly written.

There is a desperation to launch in my opinion because there is a panic about the window of opportunity closing but at the expense of a network which is clearly nowhere near ready.

What maks you say that, please be more specific when making claims. With the 500kb chunk size and 5GB nodes the network ran fine. The latest week with different parameters is a part of testing.

I’m not saying otherwise - I’m saying a lot more testing is needed before (a meaningful) launch and we are supposedly two weeks away.

I don’t know what is driving the rush, but the signs more time was needed were emerging very soon after the roadmap was published and have increased rather than receded as the October deadline grew closer.

This is just one of many indicators which have been growing over this year. So maybe it is a non-issue, but two weeks from launch we need to know already that it is a non-issue, and we don’t. We have done nowhere near enough testing of the network to be confident it is ready for launch. I don’t expect everyone to understand why I say that, but now and again I find it hard not to point out an obvious red flag.

Don’t think my definition of launch will be in 2 weeks. In my head launch is early next year.

I agree, and so we both agree launch is not happening this month even though Autonomi say it is. Personally I think end of January is unlikely too but we shall see.

can’t we just get beyond interpretations of used labels like “launch” and let everybody keep their face +try to get something that finally is at least part of the goal …? and get further from there? :open_mouth:

and get an API? xD

I think integrity matters. Autonomi say launch is 29 October. Are you ok with that?

I don’t care how they call it - I tell my people that soft-launch is February … and that it’s the wrong token then … but that I hope they do the switch to real token at some point …

…I think they sad that firm that they will launch October they can’t do anything but label it some form of launch without loosing face … so I let them do their definition and I have mine

as long as they don’t really launch October and everything implodes I’m okay with it

That’s ok for you because you understand the reality, and ok for those listening to you. So why would you be irritated by someone pointing this out for others?

I think the official line is very important because maintaining trust in Autonomi is vital if we want to reach everyone. We have had that until this year and I don’t believe we need to lose it.

just because I don’t think the current label will matter in 1y or 2 … and right now it puts certain people in a corner and puts additional pressure onto them … which might not help …

finally they seem to work on an App and use the API to work with data and seem to see that it’s not ready at all + the many issues being hidden there because nobody worked with it yet (or the discovered issues by someone working with it weren’t addressed yet because of priorities …) … I’m sorry you invested so much time and energy while they tried to pretend everything is ready … and now they switch to that annoying blockchain solution that I don’t exactly like either … but needing to choose between another 9y of nothing to work with and a network where I at least can use the storage layer and have an API to develop agains I’ll definitely go with the erc20 crap  … and really really hope we get rid of it as soon as possible …

We’re going off topic there. I get your position. We disagree about the importance of the messaging. No need to get into the other issues as it wastes time and I’m well into my weekly forum quota

you’re right - enjoy your evening and don’t try to save the world - it’s not possible anyway  … if we make it a little bit better for the people around us it might already be something  … (said the younger one xD I really value your opinion - I hope you know that)

Of course, and I value your opinions too, of course. Have a great week.
