How do I set up and run a node

Thanks for sending the link to the roadmap that you published today.

Reading this, it urges me to participate by setting up a node to offer storage space and bandwidth (this is in the Early Open Beta Testing System).

How do I do that?

Searching the forum I find this question has already been asked: I want to try to join the test network. How do I run the node?.

But this was over two years ago. I did find this link to Github: safe_network/sn_cli at main · maidsafe/safe_network · GitHub.

So this provides access to the resources, but doesn’t explain what to do with them.

I have a spare computer and I want to set up a node. There must by many people who would also like to set up a node.

Where do I start?

Currently you need to wait until a testnet is started - and announced as a topic here on the forum. When that happens there are instructions in the announcement. To see what is involved, take a look at the last testnet announcement: [ValentinesNet] [14/2/24 Testnet] [Offline]

You can also run your own local testnet on your own machine, but that is intended for developers. You don’t need to do this, but details are here.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I shall experiment with the links that you have sent me. This should improve my understanding of how the system works.

I shall look out for the next testnet announcement.

I think it goes without saying that if SAFE is going to go mainstream, then it will have to be that those operating nodes, or wishing to store data, will have an easy and straightforward experience.
