Explain Maidsafe to me?

Ok so it’s a Decentralized internet , I get it .
But how are we going to use it exactly ? is it an application ? also do we need to pay our current ISP (Internet providers) so we are able to use Maidsafe internet ? please take it easy on me , I’am just a simple BItcoiner who came from Bitcointalk . don’t know that much

I checked , however I can’t find the answer for my ISP thing question

It runs on top of the Internet Protocol, so to the ISP it’s just regular IP traffic (though the payload is encrypted). No additional required payment to ISP’s will be necessary.

Nothing changes, you will simply download an installer program, create a logon and your off.

You dont need to worry about keys, they dont exist outside of the network and unlike today, when you travel around all the different services your already logged in. One login for the entire network.

Just like Bitcoin, you join the network through your ISP (ip-address), you don’t have to pay for that. On the Maidsafeclient you’re able to run Apps, you also get a local virtual harddrive where you can put files on. They’ll be stored on the SAFEnet.

Damn , nice stuff .
However I care a lot about my privacy , also can we run from Chrome or Firefox or those browsers or there is specific browser to use , and is it safer then Tor it self ? or our IP will be everywhere just like using any other web browser

IP is obfuscated through several hops, only your close group (random 32 other machines) know your IP, but it’s very hard for them to actually figure out what the data is you’re using because matching encrypted chunks to public files isn’t straightforward. For private files it is practically impossible.

SAFE is more secure than Tor in the sense that the data is distributed. On Tor hidden services are still centralized, running from a specific server. The only thing that is hidden is the IP of the server. In SAFE data is scattered all over the place and regularly moves around.

There will most likely be addons for existing browsers, but whether these will be very secure I can’t say.

With some time you might be able to connect to a MESH network, for example with the phone of your neighbour, who is connected to the internet. You will pay for the bandwith you use with safecoins and you wouldn’t need a connection to an ISP yourself at that point.

To further elaborate, the close group is based in XOR space so close group is mathematically close not geographically. Also I’m pretty sure IP address is actually scrubbed after the first hop but I may be wrong on that. There are many exciting things about this project that are very novel.
Self authentication is one to be excited about. Use the magnifying glass search tool in this forum at the top of the page to learn more on that. Release of a basic installer is expected in 2-4 weeks as far as I know. Welcome to the forum!

It was slated to be released last December, but strides have been made and revamped and made and revamped to the point where they are truly closing in on the public release date. Here is the current Roadmap http://maidsafe.net/roadmap, which has been static for about 2 weeks now, thus they are getting extremely close to releasing the first Dev Bundle. After Dev Bundle 2 and 3, I expect the public release to be closer to several months from now, on average.

edit: It may look like it could take even longer than that, considering Maidsafe has been in development for many years, and there are still quite a few Roadmap hurdles to overcome. But the code was transferred from C++ to Rust for the first half of 2015, cutting code from 100,000s of lines to 1,000s. So now working with the system is miles faster than ever before.
