Just wondering if this could be some North Korean project to get funds?
The parasites and recently-arrived move on to the next target
If ever in ANY doubt, blame those damned Commies!!!
At the moment, some 850,000 nodes have disappeared from the network at a very rapid rate, and I wonder if someone might be trying to test the possibility of destabilising the network by dynamically attaching and then disconnecting nodes.
Edit: now heās turned it back on and weāve maxed out at 12, 270 million nodes againā¦
I have now decided not to run ANY nodes for now and use my resources to run @neo 's scripts.
This will cost me ETH and ANT - rather that than Euros to Hetzner simply to subsidise whales.
Feel free to convince me otherwise but for now I feel that is best for the network and those who have put the effort into getting us this far.
I hope this silence from the team means they are huddled in a small room working out WTF is going on and preparing a remedy.
It seems we are all deeply concerned with what is happening.
I wasnāt blaming, just wondering. Iāve heard they have skills for much harder things. Pure speculation, of course.
Iād suspect Chinese folks. They have a lot more infrastructure to use for this sort of thing than NK. Although if it is an attack and not merely profiteering, then I wouldnāt rule out the US NSA.
The incomes are relatively small for any such big operator, I would say they donāt botherā¦
hey folks what is going on?
Iām reading all the posts and trying to understand what is happeningā¦
I would apply cui bono?
This project is an assault on the the suppression of free speech by our Western Governments and the oligarchs that pull their strings. It facilitates a move away from the kind of ApprovedThinking that blindly blames the NK, Chinese and damned Rooskis. It is also maybe perhaps a way for ordinary folks to get an income without joining in the Western wage-slave model ā though that is loooong way off yet
So who is more likely to want to disrupt it?
NK, China? Dont think so.
It is of course not impossible its the NK hackers just looking for a fast buck as with many scams but I would look closer to home with the likes of AWS etc worried about a challenge to their business model.
Or just some very knowledgeable and capable crypto operators. If it IS a state-level entity then I think NK,China would be pretty far down the list.
EDIT: While writing this @Josh has just made my point above.
The idea of it being a single group or person is out the door I think, why would any single person who already has such a large network share keep adding?
It is now big players fighting it out!
why would any single person who already has such a large network share keep adding?
To kill off the network and the project. It represents a threat to EstablishedInterests.
And would be trivial for AWS, Digital Ocean, Meta (or whatever they are called this month) maybe even Hetzner FFSā¦
In a way, if this is an attack it is good to have it early on to find weaknesses and upgrade if necessary.

IDk that any of those slow moving overly confident sloths will be so proactive, if anyone it will be a crypto project protecting market share.
Can i ask what is the benefit of running muliple nodes rather than one big node? Is each node capped on how much resources it can offer? Do you earn more ANT if you run many nodes?
Iām so curious if there is some kind of hidden incentive, obviously outside of the financial incentive which at this point is going negative, to do such a thing but also not be for strictly malicious purposes.
I canāt think of much because the data layer isnāt really being used. Which is highly unfortunate.
All I can come up with off the top of my head is, an early ICO participant with the means (not hard to imagine if they happened to have been an early bitcoiner) is trying to show network growth and success, establish dominance as a market maker, and they either offload their stack and go away if the project doesnāt gain the traction they wanted
OR
they have established a large share of network storage helping to make it look like a success from the start, market maker status, and the network growth becomes more organic, becomes a huge success and financially rewarding, in which doing all of this now wouldnāt look so stupid.
Just seems stupid to us because none of us have those kinds of resources, levers, and money to burn short term for long term gain.
If the second scenario, it would be unfortunate for us ants short term but could end up working out in the end. But this is all just speculation, just like the rest.
those slow moving overly confident sloths
did not get where they are by not having intelligent folks working for them who have had years, decades even, to identify potential threats and to take action at the most appropriate time - which is NOW.
And if they do not have folk working on identifying threats to their hegemony then I am a reasonable well-balanced individual who is unfailingly polite to everyone at all times.
Do you earn more ANT if you run many nodes?
At this time, YES
