However, with the price…we thought we would be higher…will we rise in the same way at some point??
Yes launch price didnt do much, but if autonomi does what it says on the tin it could shoot up in the next year.
Currently, ANT is on sale every friday and tuesday ![]()
Damn the team have changed this from random rewards to its always been emissions. Prob changed in last couple of days since that is when the messaging changed on discord.
So since its the white paper’s emissions it is unlikely to have the rate changed now.
Although some changes are coming. One implications is “node quality/age” will be used. Of course the whales are running them long time and good nodes and respond slightly faster. It’ll be the home node operators who will be hit the most by the presumed type of changes. They cannot all run them 24/7, and all the other factors do not disadvantage the whales sucking the funds dry
We need data on the network, that’d make it too costly in storage charges for the whales to be extreme in their node running.
I am starting a series of scripts to help test the network. It’ll increase the network load a little and more if enough people join into the testing. See @Southside 's testing topic
On my machines I notice the following peaks starting on 21.02. Are these your tests?
Check out the Dev Forum
Doubt it since only a couple of people are running it and so any traces of it will be minor on machines like yours. Also should hardly be any disk I/O since its quotes only.
EDIT: I have now added two more scripts, one to upload small random files for exercising the network’s ability to upload files. 3 chunk files and realistically few people will be doing this and not amount to much test data.
Also a script to download the files uploaded to exercise the download function of the network
Who would have thought that it would only take 2 days to add those 4.5 million.
10 million nodes. Insane.
Aye
Also insane that we can’t get uploads working but that 10m useless nodes draining project funds to a whale is hailed as a “success”
Cos it certainly doesn’t look like a success from here…
We?!?!!
You only showed up last November.
Aye well you buggered off and left the rest of us to get on with it. Gloryhunter. Man City supporter?
Still if it made you feel good to type that, fill yer boots
OK OK thats enough
Yes there is definitely a chance this could lead to disaster. Paying people to run nodes means millions of nodes that might disappear when the payments do. Then the earnings from the nodes go out on Uniswap and crash the Autonomi price. This isn’t guaranteed, but it is possible.
There is still a lot of danger. Success is far from assured. What happens when the rewards run out?
The rewards (emissions) are planned to be run for 50 years, AFAIK.
Edit: 50 years was the plan, current is 12 years
Same what happens when btc miners don’t get paid anymore - right…?
12 years now… but yeah, the impact of emissions should be relatively tiny by that point.
It seems clear to me it’s an economically wasteful concept, and these results are consistent with that.
At least right now it plays a role of stress testing what happens when there are many empty nodes, even if it also slows down when it’ll be possible to test what happens when nodes start to fill up.
I share everyone’s fears about this the current node situation leading to disaster.
The team have typically done their best to fix issues that get the community in a uproar and they did mention changes coming.
Whe can only wait to see what that is hopefully sooner rather than later.
The correct move on their part is not to jump around changing things on a dime without properly observing what’s happening and learning from it too.
My initial thoughts are its a bad actor but it is also very possible that it is not and then what? The team tells them f off when they are playing by the current rules.
At the rate, 20 Million next week ![]()
The actors(s) are certainly not amateurs, the skill required and what they are doing with the transactions is impressive, ngl - The rotation of the ERC-20 addresses, and the way they move the ETH through them to fund, short sell, and move on is interesting to see.
It’s concerning to see the liquidity being impacted, but without them, we would have limited volume, so they are doing something good by keeping the ANT active on the exchanges.
I think the bigger looming issue is, how are we going to prepare for any sort of node upgrade - are we going to see a hard fork with these 20 million nodes to an alternative node system ? will they just get switched off in one go, I hope not, I’m not sure my internet will survive ![]()
I hope we get some notice, so those that need to, can baby sit their nodes.
The rewards seem to be decreasing with every day as more nodes compete to secure them. This diluting effect will surely lead to fewer nodes being added as the economics cease to be advantageous.
Moreover, as the network becomes fuller and busier, the nodes will take more resources to run, temporing node growth too.
We’re in week 2 folks. Last week was amazing and it’s astonishing that we have a worry of there being ‘too many’ nodes. There could be much worse problems to be dealing with!
Ofc, it could lead to some gyrations as incentives flip/flop a little until equilibrium is found. Thats ok though. It’s a new network, with new technology. We will surely learn a lot about the elasticity of the network too, should more savage swings materialise.
Enjoy ride! ![]()
To many nodes never thought we would have that problem after a week ![]()
It’s possible and it will always be an arms race of people finding loop holes and expoits.
We know the software has measures which cause bad nodes to be shunned. This will doubtlessly be refined over time.
As the network fills with data, I suspect it will be harder for a node to pretend to be doing useful work. Blaggers will get called out.
Until then, the ride may get a bit bumpy. It’s all brand new.
