ANT - Measurement V Price

In this topic we discuss the costs of running a client/node/isp/meshnet, so the real world costs. It would also be handy to give each other tips/tuts like a free tier (when the Network launch this can become handy).

Measurement is also ANT cost & time to upload, data size, bandwidth etc

Oracle has a pretty decent free tier as well.

What is this? What are you comparing?

If you’re using this to run nodes, there are better, more cost effective options. I use hetzner cloud and it’s been great, and more for the money than your snip.

Yes indeed
Use - but do not abuse, Hetzner.

The pricing is good and they are good to deal with as long as you do not attempt to set their boxes on fire with crazy numbers of nodes.

As it says when choosing a box from Hetzner

If you can keep the avg CPU usage beneath 70-80%, there are unlikely to be any complaints.
Run it at load avgs in the hundreds and they will notice pretty quickly

Costs of running a node, but this is different with every cloud service
How many Maids you can get instead
But there are other factors at play…

Yeah I noticed it’s what @southside was using also, hope others come forward with other options as well.

For now I use AWS and Azure (free tier)
Still experimenting with my home nodes…

I hope AWS and Azure don’t have your creditcard details and charge you for the bandwidth afterwards…

I’ve set a limit on both and keep a hawk eye on the costs, bandwidth is the highest cost now on Azure.

They have my creditcard details, but there is even a limit on my spending there. I got 4 vps nodes running although I don’t contribute a lot it’s just more ammo for the Network…

So why did you choose those cloud providers instead of unmetered at hetzner or strato ?

To be real honest I’m totally unfamiliar with running things in the cloud (I’ve never run a vps on command line or ssh in my life before) I only started because the existence of the Network makes it well worth it, to start playing…

Even the community networks that @josh is running is like a mystery, I would like to run a comm network for fun.

We just need to have more tuts and start doing stuff, especially coding for the Network.

Thx 4 the strato tips will check it, cheers :beers:

I got 420 nodes running, but I wonder what is the goldilox zone?

With 599 and 500 nodes my vps froze up, costing time :money_mouth_face:, there is a better way to calculate how many nodes you can run with a setup like for example…

Yea start a small number, then check usage stats the VPS is using after 2 hours to 4 hours, then add more keeping the vCPU at 50% or less (it will use more cpu) and your bandwidth traffic below that which you are allowed each month.

If 5TB per month then keep below 15Mbps upload rate

Its what everyone has had to do

You are waaaay overloading it. With the current version every 100 nodes needs roughly 10GB RAM.
