What’s up today? (Part 2)

I would. They always say things like that. This guy is probably just after RTs. It’s not worth repeating stuff like that unless you’ve reason to trust it.

Extraordinary claims…

Maybe we take our winnings here and buy “Autonomi Island”, in the bahamas or something. Otherwise, I’m just getting a large yacht.

I hope you are corrent.

Yeah I am not a fan of the guy he seems a little dodgy. Time will tell, hence I was hoping for corroborating sources.

The FOSS forkers of Redis have came out with a very readable little rundown on their reasoning and strategy. It was hard reading for me after the approach taken here recently: Redict 7.3.0 is now available | Redict

“We have also taken this opportunity to re-evaluate our infrastructure and double down on using free software. Rather than continuing to use the proprietary GitHub forge, we have elected to use the non-profit, free software Codeberg as our home, and we run our continuous integration on SourceHut, which is also free software. Moreover, rather than gathering on Discord, we have chosen instead to set up our community on Matrix and IRC. We believe that the Redis® license change provides us an opportunity to focus on our values as members of the free software community, to exercise solidarity, and to lend our strength to re-enforce the broader free software ecosystem. As such, we felt it important to choose free software solutions for our infrastructure needs.”

As I’ve said elsewhere - I hope my fears are unfounded, and that the project can make these seemingly small concessions (Twitter, Discord, etc), and still stay true to the initial vision when external (and internal, who knows) pressure mounts to capitulate.

Communication already seems to have fragmented somewhat - as I’ve seen others mention too - although I remain hopeful that that’s because everyone’s just busy for the moment.

Anyway, I’m not saying the approach described above could or should be copy/pasted here - rather that it illustrates an interesting counterpoint to what this community largely accepted as the only path forward.

This forum is community run. We also have a community run telegram channel I believe. So there should be nothing holding anyone here back from creating community run Matrix (do we still have one?) and more.

We have agency!

There was an attempt a few days ago by an anonymous person to publish a new Telegram channel and reddit, but this poses a threat of a Man-In-The-Middle attack and so we refused to publish it.

All channels should be created after community discussion and by non-anonymous people who have proven their reliability over time given the large number of scammers in crypto.

These points of yours in no way constitute a reply to any of the points I made in my post, and I hope it’s obvious to anyone who read my post that they’re not related. I’ve no idea what’s going on in your head that makes you think they’re related, and I’m not interested in finding out.

I don’t expect others to care about or agree with my point(s), but it certainly would be nice if the people who don’t understand had the wherewithal to at least refrain from responding to points I didn’t make and framing their response as if it were relevant.

Well, okay then … I guess no point is explaining why it appeared to me that you were concerned that Maidsafe’s embrace of Discord and not FOSS alternatives wasn’t the best option. That’s clearly what is looked like you said and I’m sure some others may have thought that too.

yes, yes indeed. Unfortunately, when one believes they do understand, then they will respond won’t they. So you are making it sound like I am disingenuous again (as you’ve attacked me like this before) … but I only speak my truth here and I’m not an enemy of anyone - even those I’ve blocked. I find it all a bit strange frankly.

I don’t believe they will attack Israel directly as that would lead to escalation, which Iran doesn’t want. More likely either an attack on Israeli interests or “outposts”, or enabling various proxy attacks inside Israeli territory, like from Hezbollah etc.

This is such an impressive improvement I thought at first it was an April fools joke, but seems legit:

Our results show that Jpegli can compress high quality images 35% more than traditional JPEG codecs.

Just had an earthquake in the northeast US here. First I’ve felt in my lifetime. Just thought I’d share with my internet friends. :stuck_out_tongue:

Never experienced that, how bad, damage?

Have you seen the ocean temps this year? Off the charts, hurricanes are going to be intense.

Not just my opinion, my home insurance company just droped me cause operating in Florida is too expensive.
I guess they saw the ocean temps too.

Hopefully you are NE enough to escape that bs.

No damage here at work, knocked some stuff off the shelves.

Guy at work lives near the epicenter - his wife said it knocked a bunch of stuff off the walls and broke them, but nothing structural.

Surface area of people feeling it was huge according to the govt maps. like 3 states worth. I have no frame of reference of what’s “normal” but that’s mind boggling to me.
