Do you get charged when re-uploading a lost chunk?

I expect the network doesn’t know it was previously paid for and is now lost, so you do get charged?

had to pay for 1 chunk

I thought it is supposed to know and not charge again but :man_shrugging:

I’m not sure how that works: how does it know if a chunk is there or not?

Because unless that’s a quick and efficient process, that sounds like lot of work and latency when you multiply by the number of chunks in an upload.

For example, the process for the API to decide a GraphEntry is not there takes about a minute. And since everything is a chunk…

Uploader requests the chunks. Should be doing it in parallel to reduce lag. I believe there is a function to request if the node has the chunk without actually sending it.

For chunks there only needs to be one node respond, no need to wait for all to respond to get all copies.

Thanks @neo, it still sounds at first sight unlikely to be effective.

This is quite a bit of work whether or not the chunk is transferred. And since the test for charging requires you to know that a chunk doesn’t exist, it would appear to need to take as long as the test for a GraphEntry.

For most uploads, every chunk will not yet exist, so that means a lot of work and a significant delay (e.g. a minute) to determine whether or not to charge.

So I guess there’s a period of a minute (?) between starting an upload and learning which chunks need paying for?
