Update 18 January, 2024

Good Q (and the main assumption that keeps us on TCP right now… something I’m hoping to shake out with this).

I just tried to start some nodes on ports without port forwarding set u.
the nodes started but did not connect

I suspect the testnet knew that when I tried to boot up this morning I was going to be greeted with the middle finger

:face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

My pc has been running swimmingly well for ages but I fell for the “a new version of Ubuntu is available, would you like to upgrade”

Arrrgghh I knew it was a bad move and here I am proving myself correct!

Excellent first -err err second update of 2024 - thank you to all concerned in front of and behind the scenes.
Looking forward to quic - hopefully I can get nodes from home running again.

@Josh is this a candidate version of 24.04 you are trying out? I get fed up of the ubuntu new releases messing with my workflow so now I only go for LTS versions on critical boxes - once they have been out a month or so.

23.10 (“Mantic Minotaur”) I dont know why I did it, I ignored the promt for a few days and then it must have just got me at the right time and I said, sure come deal me a few punches.

Have you been on the Buckie’s again :joy:

No Buckie - no - Last week Mrs Southside said “Look at all this drink thats left over from Neerday!” So as part of my New Years resolutions I tidied up and so can remember very little of last week. Apologies (hic)

Due to the magic of Timeshift I have gone back in time and learned the lesson (don’t upgrade)… again!

All’s well that ends well  This is why as people get older they resist change, you learn it is just a pita.

Now where is that new test network?

I dont resist change, I’m just picky about where it should be applied. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I recently setup SyncThing on a number of computers. I noticed it uses QUIC and works very well. No matter which network I’m on the computers sync.
SyncThing is open source protocol and code.
https://syncthing.net/

Syncthing is a continuous file synchronization program. It synchronizes files between two or more computers in real time, safely protected from prying eyes. Your data is your data alone and you deserve to choose where it is stored, whether it is shared with some third party, and how it’s transmitted over the internet.

Give your ID to your friends, share a folder and watch: UPnP will do if you don’t want to port forward or you don’t know how.

Might be within reach for us too:

By the way, how is the payment system working in general?

I’m a bit confused as the faucet seems to fall over often because of performance issues, but then on the other hand, the basic uploading and all the payment related to that seem to work just fine.

I read up a little on QUIC, the links below explains why it is better than TCP for anyone like myself that is not well educated on these things.

I’ll place a 100 faucet token bet on today

(I am still allowed to wager as the vast majority of maid is still at bittrex)
Need to make some dough before I am forced into retirement!!

I’m going to be on reduced nodes for this one a few of my vps`s hit the fair usage amount of 4Tb already :frowning:

They drop down to 10mbs unlimited from 1gbs once passed the 4tb threshold :frowning:

I remember getting a 20MB line back in the day and thinking that I am the coolest thing since sliced bread :joy:

Now you can barely send a email on that :joy:

Going to feel bad about taking these faucet tokens off you at the end of the play :frowning:
