@Krekc 68 had the wifi? Maybe I got the number wrong. I was looking at the lock with the smile. I like the simple imagery and positivity it brings to it though I don’t like those swirling lines around it. And 70 seemed like a professional look. Imo somewhat too professional like boring but much better than many of the others.
I think inspiration should be drawn not only from locks and shields. Yes the network is Safe and secure but it’s so much more too.
No sorry you are right. It gets confusing when there’s a number above the image and underneath it
I was talking about 64, 68 is obviously shown underneath it.
I like 68 as well. I also like the idea that the lock is a happy smiley
I agree, that’s why if you feel a design can be improved upon to stress the other properties of the network we would be happy to relay the feedback to the designer. (if we don’t totally disagree ) I’m also hoping that perhaps some designers on the forum are preparing some great submissions for when we open up the competition after the fourth day.
I think that’s why I like 7. Looks like a heart. Not that a heart is what I’m after but it slightly less restrictive for lack of a better word. Warmer rather than cold.
Locks and shields can be unwelcoming and that’s not what we are.
@Krekc edit: the lines are almost but not quite 5 figures (symbolic of a community) if it could be a little easier to interpret them as such… I think it would be my fav. but I doubt its possible without messing the design up.
so 7 has everything I think is needed, warmish, --community’ish and secure… I just wish it were a little more of the first 2.
@Krekc and all others. Okay not sure if anyone will know what I’m talking about but in the lifestuff mockup there is a little thought bubble that I believe said safe inside it. To me that portrayed to me “the cloud” and ideas because of it being a thought bubble and that this cloud where your ideas go are safe because it clearly says “safe”. I think if people think about that it is simple and really represents what it’s about. Keeping our ideas safe in the cloud. I mean yes it’s more than that but I think it says a lot.
the designs i like are:
-
#1 → i like that there a multiple small parts coming together forming a big part
-
#3 → actually rather ugly but goes in an interesting direction because it looks more like a network graph with nodes. would like to see more (prettier) designs going in that direction.
-
#74 → the safecoin logo, only in an orientation that spells an N. i find that a neat twist.
-
17 → just kinda looks cool
but havent really fallen in love with anything that i saw out there yet…
I still think #6 is the only serviceable one atm myself. The image has to be simple enough to scale to small sizes and be clear imo. I like the person being the keyhole - we are the key to our own security etc, i like the round, bubbly simplicity to it, it’s friendly, and yeah, people with a lock says something about what the network is. It’s not perfect and could do with some tweaking, but I still prefer it to the others at this point.
It will be interesting to see what people vote for because i’m surprised how few seem to like that one and I’m surprised by the ones people do like.
#6 could potentially get my vote. Hard to encapsulate what this network stands for in a simple image
would it not make sense to actually have a proper poll for which designs make it into the next round after all initial designs have been submitted? that seems more orderly than what we are currently doing here.
wohow #37 is pretty cool too i’d say - very different from everything else … kind of a face and an s at the same time
looks like a roman warrior or a punk to me … a person like you and me (or so ^^) - formed by a network …
@riddim if you’re accounting for punks count me in. Punks4lfe
i might not look like one but i have much sympathy for them and after rastas and dreadlocks i might try a mohawk next
(the only problem is that it might be hard work to style your hair like that every day… )
Be like me and let the pillow style your hair! Before I grew up and got a pillow it was the floor that did my hair Haha, that’s cool you can pull off dreads but even bed head Mohawks look good, little push of encouragement.
haha - let me first work 1y at my new company … while pretending being a regular guy (didn’t work 100% yet but not too crazy behaviour yet i think xD )
anyway - you’re 100% right - i never wanted to become boss anyway … too many hours of work more … that will become my joker to prevent such a thing! we talk again about that in 10 months of time^^
It seems too… osculatory.
What do you think of 63? It use the same idea and looks more slick and professional.
EDIT: The one that stick out for me are:
13 - I like it but I think it would work better for a tower defense game, it’s a bit too playful for me.
39 - Simple, stylish, classic. One of the best I think.
63 - Clean design, sharp, I could easily see it as the new face of Safe.
73 - The best S. Also looks like a chain-link which works for security well.
If I had to pick right now, I’d probably choose 63.
My favorites, fwiw, in order:
39 - Very effective, I think. A reasonable amount conveyed with just three marks. I like more than the serif version, 38.
32 - A little banal, not too busy (problem with a lot of these is overcomplexity, which doesn’t work in part b/c of difficulty reproducing in smaller sizes), but all in all fairly effective, I think. It has a cohesive, “whole” feel imo. The image makes me feel “safe” … not sure how else/better to say that.
46 - Not sure why I like this … just seems like a pretty solid design.
I wish I could vote on this; to be honest most of these are still pretty weak. Padlocks, and the letter S.
80 and 59 are kinda nice, but still pretty meh.
53 and 21 are the only two that seem actually decent. 53s design seems to represent the network, to a degree, and is at least not a complete cliche. It’s design though, is still pretty uninteresting and isn’t iconic enough to be able to remember.
21 is the least offensive of the S based designs, seeing as it actually has a somewhat decent representation of the network’s design, but it’s still just an S design.
As it stands all of these are mediocre and the rest are painfully mediocre.
I’d like to see some designs based on the Penrose or something with a similar mindset to it. All these designs right now are cliches. They look like any other random pop-up company IP, that will fade into obscurity.
The SAFE Network is a well designed, novel idea. It’s logo should be the same. Not something that blends into the myriad of bland designs you can find on any company website. It needs to be iconic. Something that can’t be mistaken for something else. Unique.
But that’s just me. In the end I suppose the branding itself is secondary to the network, but still.
I’d try and create my own design to submit if there was more time and I wasn’t out of my home country at the moment.
I really believe in the metaphor that the Penrose represents in relation to the SAFE network. The logo should incorporate it somehow, or something similar to it.
I also feel that having a padlock might be limiting ourselves. It is a great way to symbolize the secure/safe aspect of the project but there is so much more to the safenetwork than that. A padlock gives me the impression it’s a company that deals with only one concrete thing - security.
Something abstract is needed in my opinion. The penrose is a good example. The core essence of the network is something we are in the process of discovering and defining with many fantastic surprises along the way. The evolution is happening and will hopefully continue to happen for maybe a long time. A concrete symbol (like a padlock) seems final, complete and descriptive of only a single aspect out of many.
We do not yet know what the network will be like.
Because of this I feel like the competition cannot give satisfactory results. Because how can somebody unfamiliar with safenet somehow sum up the network in 4 days. The results are bound to be superficial. This understanding of what the network is has been a slow but facinating process for me since the crowdsale (and it’s ongoing). The logo is the core of the network condensed, the focal point of the whole project.
This competition made me realize this. So I do not consider it a waste of money in no way whatsoever. More like a good smart investment, because it made me personally realize what the logo should not be. This I consider very valuable.
The Platinum-only submission period will be closed today at 12:30 PM GMT
The competition will then open up to all designers on 99designs, including community members that have registered there as designers.
