Routers for advanced setups

For the ANT:s to be worth potentially a lot more than what you bought them for then the network need to be secure and decentralised, that is a great reason for running nodes.

What monetary reasons does people have for running Tor relays? Still a lot of people are running relays.

Buying crypto has many times been more profitable than mining, for many projects.

With such low barrier to entry as for the Autonomi network then profit margins will tend to go towards as low as anyone are willing to run nodes at.

That’s right, I’m running them at a 100% loss because I’m not selling anything.

Good to hear this feedback, especially coming from you, the most dedicated AUTONOMI-man.

This means, that other incentives than monetary ones, cannot sustain running nodes in a larger capacity. That makes it all the more important to tailor node software towards average homeware, in order to get the network as decentralized as possible.

Do you really think it will work? This has been the USP that got me exited 5+ years ago, but it never really worked as far as I understand. and have learned alot getting my home server running on a public IP-adress, its fun

I wouldn’t write of farming AUTONOMI just yet. The return is rubbish right now, as there isn’t enough data being stored, likely because it is too expensive. With the merkle tree changes coming, the economics could change quite dramatically.

When would you personally pay a significant amount to ANT to upload your data if its storage is not guaranteed permanently?

I think it depends on the nature of that data.

Bear in mind that it is highly unlikely that all the chunks will be lost. Any that have gone missing can be uploaded again, at a fraction of the total cost.

For IMIM and blogs, I just uploaded them again and paid for a handful of chunks which had gone away.

Obviously, we want to reach a place where data is retained. That was the case until the bad/rushed release - at least for IMIM blogs and the other files I checked with any frequency (including some large media files).

EDIT: Also, bear in mind that when there is actual data being stored in higher quantities, the reward/punish dynamics changes considerably. The chasing of emissions, with throw away nodes, is what caused data loss (IMO).

We had almost a year with no data loss so it is very disheartening what’s happened but lessons have been learned and I’m sure after the next update we will be back in business.

And the first file uploaded to the network is still there good old BegBlagAndSteal

I am ready to lose at least 200$ when merkle tree and some bugs are smashed, I hope we can find many more willing to do the same.

Risk some for potential future gains, community need to walk the path for others to follow.

If we can get 100 people to upload 1TB then we are on a good way to raise price for ANT cost to upload, which will give a larger network and making it more difficult for node whales running over provisioned nodes.

I hope to see @blvd upload a few TB next year, spreading some love with the hundreds of thousands of dollar in profit he has made.

Im paying $300 for 29 public static IPs and 5gb symmetric in my space in Wisconsin. Maybe shop around a bit

you need to also join and upload at least 1TB in early 2026 :eyes: There is going to be an upload party for everyone to join, that is a current plan.

When did the NAT table size baloon to those levels. I am running around 1200 nodes and only have 56k connections in the NAT table but i suspect that nodes needs a restart as they have been earning less and less for the last month. But i don’t know how to know if the nodes are ok as they are running using the ANM script.

No idea on use of ANM script. The 4M nat session tables were based off a modified antnode codebase (not official binaries).

Arent a large percenrage run by LE?

They used to track all packets and map out rhe entire thing in real time contunuosly.

I believe they have trusted nodes like universities but they probably have LE also from different countries.
