Perfect match for early marketing? Farcaster privacy focused social media platform

I was introduced to Farcaster this morning, which may be a project worth engaging with in some way.

I’m not that familiar yet, but this video gave an introduction:

They aim to enable social media where users control their data… but currently that data is hosted by Community members running ‘hubs’.

I was wondering whether Autonomi could become an option for a ‘hub’?

With Farcaster, it’s fairly easy for users to make mini apps within their main app, so adapting a video / audio app that downloads data from Autonomi via a proxy to work on their system may be quite easy, and could introduce a group of privacy focused, crypto savvy, well connected people to what Autonomi has to offer.

There’s also a built in wallet that has Arbitrum compatibility, so users would already have a wallet that can hold ANT to potentially enable uploads to Autonomi from their app.

I guess it’s a fairly small community, but could be interesting in the future, and give some pointers as to how Interoperable, user-owned-data social apps could work on Autonomi.

After considering this a little more, it seems to me that this would be a very rich place to focus some effort for Autonomi and the community.

It may be great ‘low hanging fruit’ to kick off some adoption / attention.

It seems well worth considering because there’s a community of about 1,000,000 people;

  • who are privacy aware / focused
  • who are crypto savvy
  • who are using an app that has a built in Arbitrum capable wallet
  • who are looking for interesting ‘mini apps’, (which I expect could include Autonomi interfacing apps)
  • could use a solution for decentralised data storage within their ecosystem
  • that includes many developers who may be interested in building with Autonomi

While Autonomi obviously wants to look well beyond crypto natives as a market long-term, for early adoption they’re a great group to focus on because Autonomi currently requires Arbitrum transactions, and they tend to value privacy & security more than the average person.

It seems like Farcaster users could be a very low-friction group to reach out to, and offer Autonomi based apps to through an app they’re already using.

Maybe after Impossible Futures some of the Autonomi apps could be wrapped in a way that works on Farcaster so they can be distributed in that community to gain reach?

Or, run a mini-round of Impossible Futures with the aim of developing a selection of Autonomi interfacing Farcaster mini apps?

What do others think about this?

Does it seem like a good place to deploy Autonomi apps to in order to get early users and attract capable developers?

Can any devs comment on whether Farcaster’s ‘mini app’ system is flexible enough to allow Autonomi apps to be distributed through their platform?
