The issue about the node numbers was actually discussed earlier in this thread. At the moment, it is by design that the removed nodes are still part of the registry.
If you have 10 nodes, you could remove number 5 and 6, for example, so it’s just easier to add the next node as 11.
I am working on a reset command that will completely clear the registry and therefore reset the counter back to zero.
