Multi Party Computation in SAFE Net

Hey

I just read the Safe primer and it seemed to me that it is the best choice for creating a efficient distributed computational network.

The program logic can be split into multiple small circuits that interact with one another. The circuits can be stored in an immutable container and the circuit state can be stored in an append only container. Farmers hosting the circuit will execute it and arrive to a consensus via parsec. Many of these small circuits can interact and create a big program that will be faster than traditional ethereum smart contracts. Also circuit garbling can help in creating private contracts (a borrowed term from enigma project).

Safenet if it implements this feature will play a great role in building a scalable and usable distributed computing network and possibly lead to its wide spread adoption…

Thanks for patiently reading upto this. I would like to know what the community think about it.

Yes this has been planned and will wait till after the network is live before implementing

That’s cool but why isn’t it specified anywhere I mean distributed storage is cool but distributed computing that’s even cooler and exciting. Isn’t it???

Its been talked about, but with all eyes on getting the network out for a year or two, it has not been mentioned much

Hmm and by the way is there any roadmap for the SAFE Project???

(but no mention of distributed computing)

Secure Access For Everything… simpler than a list

Welcome Meghdip, you’re definitely onto something. As @neo says we’ve discussed this from time to time and I know Maidsafe have thought about it too. It will be a fantastic resource, and could make supercomputing power widely available on tap, as well as support for ‘contracts’ of they ever prove useful.

The reason there is no spec or design is because as you’ve realised, by getting the underlying decentralised network right, it becomes relatively easy to add decentralised services later.

I like the word ‘circuits’ for this by the way. Nice one :slightly_smiling_face:

I think this is great being brought up again! It hasn’t been the topic of discussion in awhile. If you think about what SAFE has to do to store and retrieve data it is doing its own form of distributed computation but only for itself. Where things become really neat is when anyone in the world can affordably pay for distributed computation on encrypted (homomorphic possibly) data for science, big data analytics, or just providing a better and faster service to an apps customers.

I think the fact you know of Enigma is cool too as this whole thing is kind of their schtick.

Pretty soon we’ll have lots to play with and exciting milestones are being reached with this project.
Really happy to hear your thoughts. Welcome to the SAFENetwork community and I hope you stick around!

Ha ha,. It was borrowed from Yao circuit garbling and 2 party computation. A private contract can achieve many things completely autonomously like maintaining it’s own wallet and paying the farmers directly

Distributed computing is in on itself quite exciting.
Safenet has the potential of becoming the next innovation after Blockchain.

Adding dist comp to its already high aims will make it better than ethereum maybe.
And will also bring scalable distributed autonomous applications to the hands of consumers and developers

And will also bring it closer to the Piper network ( I mean the HBO Show Silicon valley )

(just to be sure you know that the piper network is actually based on SAFE (at least in part) Silicon Valley TV and Maidsafe - all is revealed )

My level of programming skills that makes me very knowldgeable at pressing the on/off pc button tell me this is awsome, a perception that helps me stay around here as long as it takes to see it all working out in the wild digital jungle!

EDIT: I didn’t provide context when writing this but it was in reference to a comment about Ethereum smart contracts and that soon we’ll have multi-sign which will enable this possibility on SAFE. cc @oetyng @mav

ORIGINAL REPLY:
Multi-sig isn’t far off with real BLS to be soon implemented. This will be the first time we have multi-sig and honestly I’m really hoping someone super smart like @oetyng and or @mav take a crack at it.

There’s a reason why when all of us watched it we would scream at the tv that is sounds just like the SAFEnetwork  well Mike Judge has said it himself that they looked at Maidsafe a lot for season 5 in which the CEO, COO, and CTO all were technical advisors for the show that season :slightly_smiling_face:

They even talked to David ofr advise

Even better, David has his own imdb page  David Irvine - IMDb
