I am reaching out to you with some critical and urgent news regarding our online space. MaidSafe will no longer fund the forum, which means its survival from this point forward depends entirely on us as a community.
The question is simple: Does anyone want to pay for it and take over the hosting costs to keep it alive?
The Situation is Urgent
Time is strictly against us right now:
The payment due date was:June 11, 2026
Current Status: Since the deadline has already passed, the forum is currently running on borrowed time and could go down at any moment.
How to Reach Me
If you are willing to take over the funding, please reach out to me immediately.

perhaps an idea for current owner to make a copy of the forum data and store it on autonomi someway or another. Why wouldn’t we preserve its exactly what this project is intended for. It be hilarious if these posts gathered through the years get lost
Yes, this is the backup idea, I’ve started scrapping the forum. Unfortunately, the MaidSafe team is small and they easily forget to tell us when such decisions are made so we have time to react…
It’s currently hosted on the official Discourse servers and they charge $500 per month, which is insane. It could certainly be hosted on Henzner for $20 per month.
There is (or at least was) so much juicy stuff in the anals of the boards (e.g. the same person who now claims they know nothing about crypto and only ever spent dough on MAID claiming they have gained financial independence (not from MAID, but from other crypto) that losing it all would really be a shame.
What is the mimimum contract length with Discourse? I’m thinking pay for another few months on an emergency basis while we sort out whether and how to transfer it to a cheap Cloud based server. It would be a shame to lose it all while we’re deciding what to do.
And I’ll definitely contribute whatever we decide.
There may be some value in keeping the archives but as for continuing either on Discord or some other service - the volume of posts recently tells its own story…
Anyone seriously interested in continuing with the forum will need to find a critical mass of competent folks to prepare and consume our own dogfood.
Sad to hear, but I guess not too surprising. A lot of history here, given the low volume of usage these days, hard to say if it’s worth continuing or not. I’d like to see it keep going and could chip in a few dollars a month, but how many will keep using it into the future? Seems like it’s time may have come.
Who owns the domain name? If Maidsafe, will they allow us to keep using it? Or would we need a new one?
I suggest that if we are to continue, we should take on a broader focus to attract and keep people coming to visit and post. No idea on what that focus might be.
Just want to add, that if the forum does go down and contact is lost, I will genuinely miss the conversations we’ve had here - hard fights and all. It’s been a really great growth experience for me over the years and I’ve learned from everyone - yes, even you @Southside – BTW, I wish you the greatest success with your garden!
@happybeing I hope you will find your way in the coming AI infested world. Your mind is a treasure - keep dreaming up new things.
@Dimitar, @neo, and the many other forum mods past and present, the dedication you have had to the project and the forum has been really outstanding and frankly, more than David and Bux deserved. Thank you very much for everything you’ve done over the years - it’s been quite a ride.
To all the others I’ve had conversations with over the years, thank you for listening and interacting.
I still hope there is a future for the forum and perhaps with some creative thinking, something new can be born from it. But if not, RIP and much appreciation to all who have taken part over the many years.
Sad times, it really felt like we were on the precipice of autonomi being ready to replace both discord and the forum alike.
XoX feels like it is intended to facilitate this type of communication whilst also broadening our horizons at the same time.
Been too busy to really dig into this project these days (just get brief windows to pop my head in like now) and still haven’t really delved into things, I take it this is not yet the case as I see peeps still calling it vapourware.
It feels as though at least in one part that there is a consensus for the forum to be protected, with this said, it might be easier to quantify the cost of uploading the archive “as-is” to autonomi for those that want to chip in to support that endeavour.
It might also be worth offering an opportunity for people to request their records be omitted from such a project, though perhaps if anyone feels this way they might have made such a request already.
