Is there a way for me to try out the SAFE network as it currently stands? I have good general computer skills, but am not familiar with SAFE and its code. Thanks for any guidance on this.
Eric
https://autonomi.com/ will get you started. From there, click Learn more. If you have further questions, reply here. It would be helpful to whomever manages the website to take your fresh eyes experience into account.
Right now it’s a bit of a journey to actually interact with the network if you’re not comfortable with a commandline.
A proper webgui is to be released any day now.
You make it sound so easy, yet @mn1247 will need Attos, special kinds of Eth, wallets and a way to tell apps about them.
@mn1247 don’t be discouraged, plenty here will help, but be aware it isn’t just a matter of downloading and running a user friendly app (even once that is available).
I’ll give it a go when the GUI comes out. A lot of hard work went into this, I know. Still, the complexity may limit the adoption of the finished product. Thanks. Eric
So, I got it running and have one node (if that’s the right term) running. Looks good. It’s hosted on a virtualized Ubuntu machine. Is there something I can try next? Thanks.
Now that I have a lovely node running, what am I supposed to do with it? Can I create a website or store stuff in it? Not sure what it’s good for nor how to use it. Are there more instructions somewhere? Thanks, Eric
The node is a part of the Autonomi network infrastructure. You do not interact with it except maybe see some status information via another program that obtains it.
The client is an application that can upload/download files. There are a couple of other applications being written by community members to do some things, like a blog, a static web page uploader/viewer, messaging. Look at the topics in the forum.
Basically the network works by people running nodes that provide the infrastructure of the network and storage. Then people interact with applications that request data from the network or store it.
You do not need to run a node to use the network, running nodes is a way to help build the infrastructure and earn some tokens for providing the resources.
