How many nodes could one run from a rpi3

In theory what sort of number of nodes could you run using a rpi 3b+?

I can run 7 easily on CM4 but always run into trouble when I try to add number 8. I haven’t experimented with the latest release so perhaps I can push it a bit further now. Will know soon.

Ah that sounds similar to me, I think I have reached the limit at 9 nodes, I did open 12 but never seemed to have more than 3 at a time actually doing anything, so then went back to one and have been opening one at a time slowly up to now

Okay, by starting them up VERY gradually (like at least 5mins between node addition) I’ve now got 10 running (never went beyond 93% CPU usage and 72C CPU temp). I’m going to stop here and see if they run without issue but I suspect I can continue to push this a bit more.

Running twenty 0.3.5 nodes on my PI4 now! yay!

Woah! How much ram do u have in the pi4? Im managing only 7 nodes with pi3 with 1gb ram

That sounds like the minimum RAM a RPi could have?

The ones I have (for other projects) are 8GB and should have enough RAM for 50 or so nodes.

My CB4 has 4MB… twenty was a bit rich, I’ve since dialed it back to 18 but that seems manageable.

What is your storage setup on the Pi4 please? Type and amount?

On my 4 core 4 thread intel cpu Odyssey SBC I finally got around to running up nodes on my starlink connection

20 nodes using 4.3GB of RAM which includes the OS usage of RAM. CPU is less than 20% and mostly around 10%

I estimate that I should be able to run another 20 nodes without issue. The bandwidth is small and could run many of these SBCs on the one link.

Have to run with home-network as the starlink router does not support upnp or port forwarding. I plan to use a more capable router on it soon enough (prob in Feb) and test the port forwarding again. It worked when I gave it a quick try earlier last year so I am hopeful

And success I have earned 1 Atto from my 20 nodes running on the SBC over starlink in 4 hours of operation

EDIT: Make that 3 attos in 7 hours

Seems home nodes earn reasonably well

I’m running a CB4 on a TOFU board w/ 2TB NVMe SSD. My current constraint is memory. Planning to upgrade to a CB5 w/ 16GB which I think would allow me to run up to 60 nodes easily.

ty! I Assume that is PCIe 2.0 with NVME controller on each strip for storage? Which Tophat config and vendor are you using to connect the CB4 or is it USB external storage?
link for TOFU board model?
