Well it is easy to set up omniwallet with bitcoin address but I don’t trust it because people are losing coins left and right.
Anything online should not be trusted. That’s why I don’t even feel comfortable using https://www.bitaddress.org
It’s reasons like this that I feel like bitcoin never went mainstream. I hope we can do better.

Not everyone is losing coins (important distinction) on Omniwallet, and in fact in no case did it sound even remotely likely that their mishaps had anything to do with Omniwallet.
I hold all my funds on Polo because it’s convenient and because it’s not a lot. I can’t justify inconveniencing myself for years.
Bitaddress.org is online as much as offline TAILS is online.
Where can I found information and updates about the date of the release of the Safe wallet ?
Look at the “dev updates” that come out each week.
At this stage the MVP will be released soon
Then more features will be added to it in further updates.
SAFEcoin is expected to be one of the first features to be added to MVP
I have a quick question along this line as I’m not a highly sophisticated techie type. I have multibit HD wallet. Can I send maidsafe coins to an address I create in this wallet? And will I be able to send them somewhere ultimately to convert to safecoin? Thx
You can store MAID in any BTC address you have the private keys too. If you want to send MAID from your BTC address then you need a wallet that understands the OMNI protocol.
Still confused.
Is it not enough to just have OmniWallet to store my Maidsafe coins? Or do I need to send them to a paper wallet or blockchain.info and then only use OmniWallet as a Watch Address to check balances? And then only import my private key into OmniWallet if and when I want to send or move them?
Thanks!
Does anyone knows if Electrum understands MAID?
No (+20 characters…)
Is there a wallet which we can use on the pc for storing MAID?
@BadAss.Sx Electrum doesn’t understand MAID. So you can use it to handle address generation, and to access your private key, but to view balances you must paste the address into omnichest.info or Omniwallet, and to move your MAID you’ll import the private key into Omniwallet.
@Widestrides you don’t have to but it may be more secure to use a paper wallet. It depends how secure your can keep your Omniwallet versus a paper wallet. So it also depends on how many coins you have and how bad losing them would be for you personally. To minimize risk, I think it’s always best to use a mix of methods, locations (e.g machines or exchanges) and addresses.
Ask yourself how bad it would be if one location was lost?
Well, if that’s 100% of your coins, pretty bad unless it’s a trivial amount. If it’s 10%, well, even for a large total, 10% is very much less painful.
Problem is, humans are lazy, but effort is one of the things that buys you security, so do it!
@happybeing i don’t like sending private keys to websites even if they have proven to be safe.
Omniwallet isn’t a website.
Download the bitaddress.org paper wallet generator and run on your (clean) local PC: https://github.com/pointbiz/bitaddress.org/archive/master.zip
Store in multiple addresses and keep in seperate secure places. Maybe use password protection.
Import the keys to Omniwallet when you want to view/spend balances.
Download bitcoin core. Sync with the blockchain (might take a while). You have your windows wallet.
Send your maid to the BTC address in core. Then backup your wallet!
Easy peasy!
Okay, I finally created my Paper Wallet using https://www.bitaddress.org and a printer. I didn’t go offline to do it and I didn’t have bitaddress.org encrypt my private key. Maybe I should have for added security.
Then I sent $1 worth of MAID from my Poloniex account to my Public Address generated by BitAddress.org.
Once the withdrawal from Poloniex was complete, I went to OmniWallet.org and entered the Public Address in their Balance Check box and it showed my $1 worth of MAID!
When and if I want to move or send my MAID, I can add my Private Key to OmniWallet.
Do I get a passing grade, or only partial credit due to not going offline to create the Paper Wallet and not encrypting the Private Key?
In my opinion the safest way (and one that hasn’t really been talked about?) is to use Bitcoin Armory on an offline pc, send MAID to an address you generated with Armory. Make an OMNI wallet, import the Armory Offline address (don’t need to import the priv key, just the public key hex), use your OMNI wallet to create a transaction which then needs to be signed on the offline machine using Armory. Import signed transaction into OMNI and broadcast the transaction. Et voila, you’ve sent a transaction without exposing your priv key to the interwebs.

I looked at Armoury and decided it was more trouble than it’s worth. Electrum is very easy to set up and use, and it allows you to create a “watch only” version if your wallet on an insecure PC without risk.
As the topic says…how do you store Maidsafe coin using a paper wallet? I am new to the whole cryptocurrency world and I gotta admit, as dumb as I am to this whole thing, it’s very exciting! I have a Coinbase wallet that I’m pretty comfortable with using. However, they don’t offer any way for me to store my maidsafe coin. After reading numerous posts and blogs and newsletters I’m to the point where I have purchased MAID on Poloniex and created (at least I think I created) a paper wallet using bitaddress.org which leaves me here…what exactly do I do next? How exactly do I move it from polo to my paper wallet? And how sure can I be that the wallet generated by bitaddress won’t be generated twice Or that bitaddress doesn’t store these addresses to where they may be susceptible to hacking? These may be dumb questions to you pro’s but I literally started getting into this about a month ago after reading a news article. So any of you pro’s willing to help out a newbie it would be very much appreciated. Have a nice day.
