Factom is secure in itself, as any other blockchain. Secured cryptographically and can be read by intended people. This is just my understanding. Safenet and Golem are on the similar lines. Factom is for saving and preserving lot of legal and other formal records as facts in its blockchain.
I don’t see factom competing with safenet and vice-versa. They both are independent projects and have their own objectives. Wish they all succeed in the future, as they all have good intentions to start with
As Irvine explain, in the last post of the metaquestion biog, have the Hash of some data are not the real data. The blockchain data solution only resolve half the problem, the verification, but not the most important, securing storage. Safe try to resolve both.

Do we want a society based on bribery? A bribery based media (sponsorship) and in turn bribery based elections and bribery based law? Or do we want a society with enough transparency that conflicts of interest like bribery are addressed? I think SAFE will bring that transparency so that among the levers of power including culture, law, bullets, familiarity-habit-idenitification-heredity and scarcity that heredity, money and speculation are not first but last. We want decisions based on maturity and insight not bias, naked self interest and a raw lust for power over others. I hope SAFE brings a post business, post state, post ‘leadership,’ world. If we can reduce the ego’s influence over others, straining it through ethics by way of overlap with logic, it will be a much more livable world.
