Better documentation is on the way
OpenAI is losing a huge amount money. 30MM in revenue, but 500MM in costs.
ChatGPT is great and all, but how can it be monetized with so much competition? Seems like a doomed company.
Moooaaaarrr timelines coming to vdash
UK pulls back from clash with Big Tech over private messaging
The UK government will concede it will not use controversial powers in the online safety bill to scan messaging apps for harmful content until it is “technically feasible” to do so, postponing measures that critics say threaten users’ privacy.
Finally bowing to the inevitable. Good news.
So your saying its an unsupportable business that the government will throw subsidizes at to keep afloat artificially keeping the never ending of stream of “good will” being co-opted to fit the elite’s economic agenda?
I dunno if it’s going to get State support or not - Google is the big-boy on the block, has their own AI (Bard) and is already a trusted censorship partner … so … not sure why they’d care about the fate of OpenAI at all.

I put this in ‘watch this video’ thread, but just came out and rather interesting to all here I think.
Security is not just hard but almost impossible when you are a big enough target for the Chinese state.
Was it luck though? I wonder what the actual odds are that all of these events could happen for each crash and then how many crashes are there on average …
Also not going to just swallow the idea from microsoft; that this was a Chinese hacker outfit - certainly no evidence that it’s State level Chinese either, that’s just the assumption here. Given that hackers use VPN’s, I don’t know how they’d really know where the hackers are from. Techniques used by hackers are copied by other hackers and span the globe. There are reasons that the CIA or NSA might have to do this as well. Also possible MS had an incentive to do it and then lie about all of it.
Frankly we are reaching a very low-trust point in history now thanks to governments around the globe. So now everyone is suspect.
But no complaints when its the US, UK or Israeli state breaching your privacy?
But don’t let that get in the way of a good British rant against those nasty uppity commies, eh?
The plucky Brits were only doing it to save you from the Yellow Hordes, mind you.
PS Anyone seen a Skripal? Even just one of them?
Marcus is a good guy IMO and knows his stuff. A lot of work goes into attributing cyber attacks so it can’t be dismissed that this was a Chinese state operation, especially when so few have this capability. Conspiracy theories aside, it’s hard to imagine the NSA needing to hack US government email accounts, though no doubt you can theorise they did this to lay a false trail
Meanwhile, some here will of course support this while others may raise eyebrows at someone betraying the country that enabled them to become the wealthiest person alive, for a while at least, (whatever you think of that country or its system):
so you unequivocally admit that
is at war with Russia? I must have missed the headlines in the Guardian…
Its particularly satisfying to see this annoys you - are these your own thoughts or those prescribed by GCHQ?
Sad that Elon was affected by the fear of russian threats and lies. I understand his fear but he should have got help from US gov to handle the situation and not talked to the gangsters alone.
" was driven by an acute fear that Russia would respond to a Ukrainian attack on Crimea with nuclear weapons, a fear driven home by Musk’s conversations with senior Russian officials, according to Isaacson."
I’m seeing regular anecdotal reports about the devastating demise of Twitter. Including one from Musk himself yesterday, inadvertantly saying that its value has fallen 90% since he bought it. Though many assumed he just can’t do percentages
Anyway, this one also shows the rise of Mastodon as activity leaves Facebook and Twitter:
Doing good example saving free speach is not always a good investment, money don’t care about if you do good things.
I wonder how this relates to Safe? Anyone better versed in these things don’t hesitate to jump in. I don’t understand the ins and outs of what this guy is saying in the first place - maybe it’s only tangentially related
Vitalik’s Twitter followers scammed after his account was hacked.
Very interesting. I wonder if any on the MAID team have bumped into some of these issues? Presumably so.
Very very very cool!
