Bittrex Global settlement was to more in relation to Bittrex US. A $24 million settlement amount.
Bittrex Global admitted to nor denied anything.
All the SEC got was $24 million for the case against Bittrex US without any admissions or denials by parent company Bittrex Global.

I’d say on the balance of things considering SEC wants to control it all, they lost that chance with Bittrex Global for the time being

Bittrex Global released the following statement today after reaching a successful settlement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in relation to its 17 April charge against the company for allegedly operating an unregistered exchange in the US:

Bittrex Global is very pleased to announce that, following submission of our motion to dismiss the SEC’s action against us in June, we have now reached a successful settlement.

From the beginning, we have been optimistic and willing to work productively with the SEC to explain our position. We are delighted that we have been able to reach a settlement with the SEC and that both parties can avoid the effort and cost of litigation. To reach this speedy conclusion, the settlement agreement includes a $24 million payment, which will be paid by Bittrex Inc. (also known as Bittrex US), and not by Bittrex Global. Now the SEC has agreed to settle the case, with Bittrex Global neither admitting nor denying the allegations, the matter is fully behind us, and our attention can be completely focused on doing what we do best: providing our customers with the world’s most secure, innovative, and regulated exchange in the market.

Slippery slope into the swamp…
Meta already seem to require a photo and not VPN .

Just seen this too…

X is seemingly working on adding government ID verification with Israeli digital ID company AU10TIX. To verify by ID, users will have to upload a selfie and a photo of their government ID.

World Bank grant of $433 million for NIMC

According to the Guardian. On 27 May 2020, the World Bank, Agence Francaise de Development (AFD), and the European Union (EU) will inject $433 million to boost Nigerian enrolment.

  • The World Bank validated the business model adopted by NIMC. It supports enrollment, NIN, and digital identity programs.
  • The Agence Française de Dévelopement and the European Union also contribute to Nigeria’s Digital Identity Ecosystem.

The loan disbursement implies some conditions not present as of February 2021. In particular, Nigeria needs to implement a data protection law to safeguard its citizens’ fundamental rights.

Nigeria has reached a significant milestone with 100 million registrations for the National Identity Card (NIN), as announced by Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami.

Despite this success, the nation is racing against time to meet the World Bank’s Digital Identification for Development (ID4D) project deadline, with a target of 148 million NIN registrations by June 2024.

NIN for SIM card registration

Biometric SIM registration is mandatory for all mobile phone subscribers in Nigeria.

Each SIM registration is mapped to the subscriber’s NIN, providing a new channel to identify citizens and facilitate credible transactions.

This move is one of the key policy objectives of the Nigerian Government to stimulate the implementation of a Digital Identity Program.

Nigeria stands beside Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, China, Pakistan, and the UAE with mandatory biometric SIM registration regulation.

It’s being tested already and will be mandated worldwide after the next crisis which requires this as a solution.

Another decentralised app project attracting VC funding Anytype - we seem to be on a second wave of these now (there used to be a separate thread for these but 5 mins on Discourse’s useless search have left me empty handed)
