Good point. Someone make a list!
Writing secure software. Here’s a very useful KeyNote on why we don’t write secure internet software, which also goes into some really useful ways to improve this (for coders see particularly from 25 mins in, although the whole presentation has value for anyone interested in software and computer security):
Note also, writing code to run in Linux seccomp (29 mins) sounds like a great way to build something secure, as well as other options he mentions.
Web1 - read
Web2 - read/write
Web3 - read/write/own
Privacy. Security. Freedom
This is excellent
That’s brilliant, though obviously for a UK Line of Duty audience.
I’m other news…
Code analysis good… It-Depends:
Reading the last line of this article and raising a glass to the Safenet team
in fact, what the skeptics say in that article is completely true, and exactly what Safenet solves.
I starting reading it until the asserted that web3 apps use Ethereum. I’d expect a bit more research from New Scientist.
Yeah, I thought it was pretty poor. Interesting that Web3, a term that’s been around at least 4 years now, has suddenly come to the fore. No Idea why. Kara Swisher in the NYT is looking into it too. I suspect she’ll do a more thorough job.

I still don’t know what “Web3” means, any more than I know what “The Cloud” means. I’m guessing they both have something to do with how servers are used.
I see it as meaning people having more control over their own data by means of the IT architecture. I don’t know why it’s suddenly a (relatively) mainstream talking point though. Maybe NFTs?
I think the fact that blockchain tech in general is now covering more facets like financial, organizational, ownership, or even the representation of a “non-fungible” asset etc, that it is coming to the fore that all of this stitches or layers together as a foundation for a newer web, web3.
Tbh, I feel like it’s just another word that is being utilized as part of the hype machine which is a form of marketing these days, to get more people into the crypto markets and price in the future potential.
I think it all misses the mark and that even with interoperability between chains that the space is so fragmented that it would be overly complex for anyone to understand what level of control, ownership, impact, etc that any action they take actually has.
In comparison, SN is like the unified theory of everything to web3. A complex problem that has been reduced down to a more simple equation. Far more understandable and auditable as a singular network than the unending crapchains that pop up every minute to capitalize off the hype machine.
I feel it is a less abrasive way to introduce new technologies to boomers/politicians who only now need to pretend to understand one thing, Web3.
In other news, Peter McCormack is buying Bedford FC and taking them to the premiere league, what do we think about that I think @scottefc86 is looking for a new team!
Yeah, but its hard to fit in with the Web X.Y buzzwords. Years ago the web 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 defitions were proposed… they just didn’t know how it would develop. Now buzzword definitions are mutating in response to crypto. One personal web 3 is another’s web 4. In many ways, Safe is a different animal. Not sure if ‘web’ is the right horse we want to tie ourselves to.
