In this thread we discuss about the current state of the network. How are up- and downloads going? How about scratchpads, pointers etc? What does everything cost today?
I’m willing to test some apps made by the community, but I’m waiting for a good weather. I have quite limited time at the moment, and I can tolerate shortcomings in either apps or the network, but not a mixture of them.
So wake me up when the weather seems fair!
Hey you, who have been using the network recently, how is it doing at the moment?
I pin a couple folks here, who I know to be regular users: @Southside, @aatonnomicc, @happybeing, @Traktion, @riddim.
I don’t know which apps do or do not use these often times flakey datatypes: scratchpads and pointers. Before they work on the level of other datatypes, the barrier to try anything other than up- and downloading some random files via the official CLI is an undertaking, I’m not willing to do at the moment.
@chriso do you know what is the situation with pointers and scratchpads? Are the problems something that might go away when everyone have updated to the latest release? Where are we on that front, what portion of the nodes are on the latest?
So I tried myself to download some old files of mine. The network is incredibly slow and unreliable.
Out of 3 different files only 1 was successful. It was 2kB file that took almost 3 minutes to download.

I heard from Discord that 85% of the nodes are on the latest release. If just 15% on older release can cause this sort of trouble, the network seems quite fragile in my opinion. It’s not even malicious nodes or anything, just older release.
…aaaand now the one successful file has been failing three times in a row.
How did it happen, that quite well functioning network went so bad so quickly?
So - do we now think that it’s more likely that 85 is not enough or do we think that maybe the root of evil isn’t resolved yet with the new release?

Others able to download? Was I just very unlucky?
Team is actively working on identifying the issue, even though some folks are on vacation this week.
Data can be downloaded, but sometimes its failing on a different attempt, as others on this forum and Discord have noticed.

Sigh… not going well here. Can others download this small file?
I updated my client and proceeded to download 2kB file. On first try I got success but it took over 1.5 minutes. That was over quality wifi. Tried again, but it failed. Then I thought that maybe the batch size defaults to one on update and changed that to 3 instead and downloaded again. Not a single chunk found. Maybe my update didn’t work, checked the version - it’s the correct one. Tried again. Not a single chunk found. I plugged ethernet cable and tried again. Not a single chunk found. Downgraded batch size back to 1. Errored on 1st chunk and I canceled the process.
WTF is this again? Why did it succeed on the first pass, but failed immediately after and keeps on failing? This is frustrating.

I just downloaded the file 5 times in a row all successful average download time 11s via a star link connection
and its supposed to be 0.4.5
