Warning about the HitBTC exchange

I really appreciate that you’ve continued on this Rusty!

@rusty.spork any update on this?

Also, very important reminder for everyone with funds on their HitBTC account. They have a policy that “allows” them to charge an “inactivity” fee of $50 a month when you have not deposited, withdrawn (the irony) or traded in the last 6 months. Make sure that this wallet maintenance does not trigger account inactivity.

No update from me. I have yet to ever get a response from email or tickets, and I am using my official MaidSafe email.

Did HitBTC undergo some sort of vetting before being allowed to trade Maid?

Unfortunately we cannot prevent exchanges from trading us, even though we seem to do a pretty decent job for triple A exchanges. (Joke :stuck_out_tongue: )

We can only advice people not to use certain exchanges, hitbtc is definitly one of them.

UK residents aren’t allowed to use the HitBTC exchange, and just recently BitMart no longer allow UK residents to use that exchange. I think there’s going to be absolute mayhem in January when the token exchange is supposed to happen. I have a few thousand tokens stuck on the HitBTC exchange so I can kiss goodbye to them.

Will the token exchange opportunity only be open for a short period of time?

While it should be open “forever” there maybe issues for those with OMNI MAID at exchanges. The last we heard the exchange will be based on a snapshot of the OMNI addresses with MAID in them, then the exchange is based on that and can be redeemed anytime after that.

So if you have OMNI MAID on an exchange then it’d be wise to get them off into an address you have the private key to. The reason being that you will have to sign a message with your private key to get access to the network token generated for that OMNI Address.

The eMAID is likely to be a burn address, or maybe also a snapshot/ But we have not been told anything about eMAID process yet.

Confirmation of all this will/should come before any snapshot is being done, if any are done.

*Yes I know HitBTC is a major problem here.

I have some MAID tokens locked in a HitBTC address that the exchange gave me, but they told me they can’t access it because it’s redundant. I have a copy of the address and can see the tokens are still there. I contact HitBTC regularly about releasing them but they reply with the same BS about because of security I’ll need to wait as they’re still trying to resolve the situation. This has been going on for almost a year. Will I be able to show the original transfer details and get the the swap for the new token?

That you will have to discuss with Jim or other suitable person on the dev team. It’ll likely involve some effort and procedure to cover their butts and have no impression of wrong doing. If i can ask, what magnitude of MAID are we talking about? Hundreds, Thousands, …? That will also factor into the procedure needed.

I have 20,000 MAID tokens in the disabled wallet and 558 on the exchange. I am not able to use the HitBTC exchange for transactions, and it’s the same with the BitMart exchange. If you’re a UK resident you’re snookered.

I would prefer not to disclose publicly the number of MAID tokens I have that HitBTC have effectively locked up. Suffice to say, it is for me personally a significant amount. (Its all relative of course).

Neo & Rusty.Spork - please would it be possible to set up some route (private forum channel or whatever - I don’t know what) to move this forward - to connect this up with Jim or whoever on the dev team that might be able to work out some procedure towards some sort of swap, as you (Neo) have indicated following AyrBlues question?

There’s at least a few of us affected by this.

(Sorry - perhaps its limitations of my forum profile, but I don’t seem to be able to DM people).

Thank you again.

Did you get any forewarning? I’m curious if I will get one, if they decide to change their policies regrading Finland.

No, I didn’t get a warning. I also didn’t get a warning from the BitMart exchange either. I’m actually very concerned about ever getting my tokens returned to me.

Fair enough. Thats one reason I ask if I can ask.

@rusty.spork Can you DM @MrX and help out. You can add Jim if needed to the private message.

I sent an email to gleec exchange, which seems to be an offshoot of hitbtc, asking them about the wallet status.

Already done that myself 2 weeks ago, no reply.

Thank you for reaching out! We apologize for the temporary inconvenience.

Our routine technical maintenance required us to temporarily shut down MAID operations on HitBTC.

Currently, we do not have an ETA for when the software update will be completed. You are welcome to check the status of operations on our System Monitor page.
We appreciate your patience and understanding.-

Best regards,
