Edit: ‘SwapNodes’ is a concept that would enable people to run Autonomi nodes and automatically swap their earnings for their preferred crypto.
This could be an effective way of marketing Autonomi to various crypto communities who might be drawn in by the ability to earn their favourite token with their spare resources.
On discovering Autonomi & what can be done with it, hopefully many of these people & communities would become network users and token holders.
I envisage an app that would manage & run nodes for users, and handle the automatic exchanging of earned AUTONOMI tokens for the user’s preferred token.
This app would also have some easy to access showcases for what can be done with Autonomi, e.g. a tab that let’s users open a few good Autonomi web-apps in their browser, and a nice description of what the network is.
While the swapping of AUTONOMI for other tokens would increase short-term sell pressure, the hope is that this would be outweighed by the demand created by new network users it would attract.
For context, this was split from the topic here: Payslave, paymaster in reverse?
The discussion was split off to keep that thread focused on the ‘payslave’ concept, as I threw in this related concept, but it was sidetracking the conversation.
The payslaves concept would enable people to pay for Autonomi uploads in any crypto they wanted, and possibly fiat, e.g. pay for permanent, decentralised storage with Bitcoin.
Payslaves is something that could be useful as soon as it’s developed, but swapnodes wouldn’t be useful until nodes are filling up & earnings from storage fees are reasonable.
Original comment that was split from the other topic:
The concept is just reverse of what you’re suggesting (AUTONOMI for token X exchange on earning vs token X exchange to AUTONOMI when spending), so shouldn’t be any more complex. If complexity is added, it could be external to the node in whatever program handles the transactions, so not affect node complexity itself.
There would be some increased sell pressure from the autonomatic token sales, but that could be very worthwhile if it were effective in stimulating adoption of Autonomi among new communities who would not otherwise be reached as quickly, in time leading to a greater buy-pressure than sell pressure for the token. The marketing value could easily offset the short-term sell pressure.
