Shifting to Linux

Maybe a graphics driver issue if it is locking up like that?

Solely on Mint and none of the other flavors?
Idk, how/why only Chrome on Mint.

I feel like because searching the web shows at least some other people suffer from this that the problem is with the OS. But I dont know, many here have zero issues.

So what is the problem with using Ubuntu and Brave then?
I have only run Mint+ Brave on a very experimental cut-down, locked down tighter than ducks arse Mint image
Meant as a secure image for a small group of non-tech folks who needed an ultra secure basic laptop for basic email, comms and dead simple office functions. It worked fine for those limited purposes.
Mint was chosen as it was kinda Windows-like for those transitioning from MS machines that I could not guarantee to support or keep virus and intrusion-free.

EDIT reading latest comments, I had no graphics issues, most likely cos there was no attempt to push the graphics hard at all. The test was - does it play a youtube video at 1200x800 on a 7-8 year old laptop ?(cos budget said we had to use recycled machines)

I just wanted a change I guess.
I did like Brave for the little while I played with it.
Going to give it a go on Budgie.

Disclaimer: free software maximalism is included in the above article

Was changing OS over the last couple of days and ran into this and thought it an interestingly hardcore perspective.

Hyperbola is an Arch-based distro which I have not tried so can’t vouch for, that had the linux-libre kernel, and they’re dropping it because they’re not happy with the direction Linux (the kernel) is going in. So they’re moving to some sort of HyperbolaBSD hybrid thing. Mad. Also some mention of Rust and trademarks (I think? Haven’t looked into it a lot) which they’re not happy about.

I’m on Trisquel KDE now by the way - very happy computing so far, everything works with no effort, hoping to stay and not move for a while. Had been on manjaro, and being back using apt feels cosy.
