SAFE Network Dev Update - September 26, 2019

Thx 4 the update Maidsafe devs,

Everybody that i talk to about the SAFE network is absolutely in love with it. I even got men asking my number to stay in touch about it. All i hear is: vault from home, vault from home. In my small circle there is def demand for this economy.

I know its stupid questions but I want to know how much time community think it will take to go live. As we can see still lot of parts is incomplete ( according to maidsafe roadmap)

I’m on the record as saying mid to late 2021 but if they keep going at the rate they are it could be 12 months earlier. In any case, not long now considering how long the road has been.

The Roadmap may be a bit deceiving. It’not the MVP to launch ( I think) which is:
BLS
Vaults 2 and 3
Node Ageing
Farming
Network Upgrades
Restarts
and then we have lift off

Hey @JPL, I don’t think I’m reproducing this, can you explain a bit more? or is it that the number you see at ?v=<version> confuses you because versions start at 0? ?v=0 is the first version of the content

I see a button for “Go to previous version” and one for “Go to next version”. Maybe there should also be a “fast forward” button for “Go to current/last version”, but I don’t see one.

If I go to safe://sascha/test.txt?v=1 the description of the “edit” button says “Edit safe://sascha/test.txt?v=1”, but that’s not really what is meant, is it. I’m not editing version 1. Rather I’m editing safe://sascha/test.txt and adding a new version 3.

It is really possible within next 12 months or end of next year, but any big issue can postpone it. Co it is hard to expect lunch sooner than during final testing stage.

Hmm. I tried it again and it seems to be working now. Previously ‘go to next version’ (fast forward was the wrong description) would stop at the penultimate version - if the current version was v2 it would stop at v1. But I can’t reproduce it now. I’ll let you know if it happens again.

wow that is bad. what parts are left to be done so that you think it will take 12 months to complete them and go live?

No, it isn’t.

I’m currently digging into the versioning behaviour as I think there is something not right. Please let us know if you uncover anything further.

You really think they launch live after 12 months? You are to big optimist…

2-3 months for Fleming. 6-9 months for Maxwell. And an absolute crap ton of battle testing. 1-2 years. Not a dev or an engineer though, so take that with a huge grain of salt.

It’ll go live pretty soon when more and more people are able to publicly test net it with much of its appx. final functionality. Should keep people occupied and more involved and more focused on improvements than “when’s it ready.” Even when it’s ready, it still isn’t ready—as it keeps growing. So keep on living.

OK, I’ve reproduced it now.
Go to site safe://experiment, it’s a simple site with four iterations with a new line added each time.
exp
Now click the previous version button and you will go back to safe://experiment/?v=0
exp0
Now click the next version button and you’ll go to safe:…experiment/?v=1 but as you can see the next version button is greyed out.
exp1
Manually typing v2 in the URL takes us to the next version (don’t wory about the numbers in the text being one out…):
exp2
And clicking the button takes us to the next one:
exp3
And the next and final version:
exp4
But now it’s possible to go one more (the button is green), but this brings up an empty page (404 error).
exp5

So the unexpected behaviour is as follows.

  1. Clicking the back button the first time from the current version should take us to v3 not v0.
  2. On arriving at v1 from v0 the ‘next version’ button should not be greyed out.
  3. The ‘next version’ button should be greyed out when we reach v4.

Hope this helps.

I think it will take atlest 4-5 years more. If every thing goes well. I wish we could see it with in12 month but seems next to impossible

The Impossible project is what it used to be. It is now just a matter of time and inside your guesstimate.

Isn’t it funny whether they be a Trader or simply an impatient human, a small number of folk just like in life tend to ignore success and focus purely on shortcomings or perceived failures 100 miles down the road?

How often do those same folk ignore what’s actually already been done because they are so focused on what is still to do?

You also never see these same folk congratulate people for their achievements because they are blinded by their own goals and I guess in most cases greed.

One really nice thing is that this Community is the only real one out there that doesn’t let someone’s negativity infect everybody else’s positivity. That resilience is rare in a group of people and a large part of the reason we graviate towards the 30 or 40 odd people breathing life into this idea. Kindred spirits in more than a few ways.

The initial acceleration towards production has already been very impressive.

Yes, there are still some things that may trip us up along the way but hey no big deal, similar or larger problems have been wrestled to the ground and defeated, all of which in hindsight we’ll look back on as part of the journey.

I’m sticking with my end of 2020 Beta guess from a couple of years ago but have no issues if I look like an idiot for better or worse come that time.

I personally choose to support and congratulate folk on each little step they take forward.

Why? I know that the day will eventually come when all those steps add up to a whole and on that day quite literally EVERYONE WINS!

Positivity is the most productive tool out there folks, keep on truckin’ @maidsafe

This is the current route. We are launching right now, the effort is mammoth and that is 100% the right thing. We don’t have money for years, we have solved the problems and just need to give this to the world. As far as the estimates go I don’t really care, they are all wrong, be default. All we have is a bunch of folk fighting every day and one of these days, hopefully soon everyone will see what we have done. then everyone will be saying of course, it was obvious etc.

tl;dr To me this is a war or a fight, we push every day to win and the winner, when I was a boxer was the person who wanted it, we want it
