I have been watching MaidSafe for at least a few years now and am really in awe of the work and perseverance. I want to help, now, with the Beta test. However, yesterday when I ran the node launchpad I noticed in the Terms and Conditions that the US is excluded. I’ve searched through the forum for something that could lead me to better understand this to no avail.
Do the Terms and Conditions only apply to the Beta Rewards or also to even participating in general? I have been playing around with an idea for an app that would be backed by the Autonomi storage and compute capabilities, but since running into this exclusion, I’m not sure how to proceed. I would be grateful to anyone for guidance in this matter. Thank you.
Basically, massively in the crypto world, organizations cannot offer services to residents of your wonderful country where it is illegal to help a squirrel…
The Foundation and MaidSafe can’t offer you services either. But if you decide on your own to download the software and use it, it will work.
In this regard, there is currently a lawsuit in the US about software offered on the Internet and whether that alone is enough for the US law to apply:
He noted that there was a legal distinction between whether someone is specifically targeting US investors vs simply making something available to everyone globally on the internet, which would obviously include US investors without specifically targeting them.
In a prior case decided by Judge Amon, SEC v Plexcorps, she decided that the US Courts had jurisdiction over the issuer of the crypto token, despite the fact that he resided outside of the US.
