Proposel to reconsider recording discord meetings

Hi folks.

I’de like to propose a strong reconsider to record the meetings on discord. @dirvine @Bux @JimCollinson

I recall reading somewhere previously the main reason why the meetings were decided to not be recorded was to keep incentive for people to show up to them live.

While I understand the logic in that, I think this is a disservice to the community on several fronts, listed as follows:

  1. Not all of us can make it even if we wanted to. I am an example of this. Several times I have wanted to be there but my busy schedule had me prioritize other things.

  2. The information in the meetings is more elaborate at times and its great to hear the recording in its entirety, in addition to a written summery that may also have corrected information.

  3. Its also great to have the opportunity to go back and listen again for retention of information and to hear what we may have missed.

  4. I don’t think it really incentivizes a loss of participation in the live meeting itself much, if any. Those who are enthusiastic about the project will want to be there no matter what, especially when they get to ask questions and contribute.

  5. It’s great for PR and marketing. Although at the time of this post, we know its better not to go full steam yet with marketing until the network is more stable, the recordings are still an excellent opportunity to add content to social media for those who are already aware of the project and keep them up to speed. Adding content also boosts you in social media algorithms.

  6. The recordings can be directly used at any time by anyone when showing others information about the network and give their own referrals/network/communities/friends/business partners etc etc informed.

  7. It shows new people with an interest examples of active PR to the community. Valuable to a mind interested in participating.

Thanks in advance for the consideration.

All good points but there was actually another reason stated for not recording them (as I remember it) which you’ve not stated: so that people would feel free to contribute without their every word being recorded for posterity.

I’d settle for highlights/minutes.

I dont recall reading that but that’s probably just me missing that somewhere. Nonetheless, that’s an easy solution i reckon: Anyone who wants to contribute that way can send PM’s to the relevant folks.

Kinda breaks the spontaneity of the discussion. Sometimes that matters, sometimes it doesn’t.

Whatever, I am looking forward to tonight’s event.

I would vote for brief minutes only if I anyone ever asked me.
