I hope it’s worth waiting
We got a local testnet before Christmas. Agreed it wasn’t the shared testnet we hoped for, but this test goes much further than the one we were hoping for back then. So it’s not correct to suggest we’re still waiting for the same thing, or didn’t get something back then.
Pedantic.
I’m not sure the limits if either testnets were ever fully published, I certainly don’t recall seeing them.
Either way my point remains, lackys needs a better outlook.
Pedantic =/= Misleading
I’m sure we can all understand @Lackys feelings. It does always feel like something usable is always close but tantalisingly out of reach.
I look forward to the day when we have a usable foundation, with iterations being built upon it. Until we reach that day, there is always the nagging doubt.
Let’s stay positive though. The push on the community network seems fruitful and it sounds like the maidsafe team are inching closer by the day.
What you said was misleading, so I’m saying that what you call pedantic was in fact clear and accurate.
So you’re telling me the exact scope of each testnet was clearly laid out?
Even if they were it wasn’t really relevant to the point of my post, I called it pedantic as although maybe misleading those points didn’t affect the sentiment I was trying to express, hence pedantic.
No need to put words I didn’t say in my mouth, just let what I wrote speak and you’re good.
I think points have more weight when made without being misleading.
I certainly didn’t mean to try and put words in your mouth.
You are claiming i was misleading.
If the scope of each testnet wasn’t clearly outlined i dont see how thats true.
Compare what you said with what I said in response. They’re different and can’t both be accurate. If your words weren’t misleading, then mine are. People can judge themselves.
Well I’ve read through it all but I’m still none the wiser.
You could have been clear and accurate whilst also being pedantic.
Maybe we should just drop this, doesn’t seem like well get anywhere with it.
Maybe this chat can move to PM? I’m not sure how much value the rest of us are getting out of it.
I may have lost the the bets but I won the race.
First!
Great progress last few months question - are Rewards being built into next public testnet? Or are they scrapped for now to expedite testnet?
Seems like neither. On one hand @dirvine said here that:
And on the other hand the PR to remove rewards is not merged.
So it seems to me that there is not going to be testnet with or without rewards this week.
Yeah I see what you mean. Not sure. Hope we will get some feedback on it
I’m sure we will. I am also sure that there is very good progress done again. It is a great team doing good job and I think all the decicions of postponing the release of the testnet are right.
It’s just that there has been this rumour of the party starting any minute for so long. I have been adding so much ice to my champagne cooler over the weeks, that people living downstairs complain about the water dripping from their roof.
Pre-dev update notification - no public testnet this week.
As I see some of you noticed above, we’ve been working on two fronts this week trying to prepare a testnet:
- with rewards,
- without rewards,
but neither is considered ready at this time.
There’s a few issues of note which are blocking us this week, such as work remaining to adjust the message flows after we moved over to only do sn_routing message accumulation (which affects all parts of sn_node) running a little deeper than initially thought, meanwhile the push to patch up a testnet without rewards has shown up some other blockers that we’ve had to try to hack around.
Ultimately stability and reliability of the no-rewards networks we are putting up internally is not consistent so the last thing we want is to put up a public testnet that quickly falls down.
Apologies for the delay folks, let’s get this done right and it will be worth the wait!
Full details to follow, as well as the usual weekly update.
