Meet DAVE!

If you want to bridge the ETH to ARB network or burn your eMaid, gas is very cheap right now.

OK a simple consideration

I asked this simple question of Mixtral AI (as designed by Brave):

“What is the average size in GB of a gzip 4K Quality 2 hour long movie?”

for uploaders and node runners did you know:

Size of 4K Movie in GB

The average size of a 4K quality 2-hour long movie can vary based on factors such as the codec used and whether the video is compressed. Without specific information on gzip compression for 4K movies, it’s challenging to provide an exact figure. However, uncompressed 4K video can be extremely large, with two to three minutes of uncompressed 4K film potentially reaching up to 500GB.14 Given this, a 2-hour long uncompressed 4K movie could be around 14.5TB.4 With compression, the size can be significantly reduced. For example, a 2-hour 4K movie might typically range from 20GB to 30GB when compressed, as seen in UHD Blu-ray releases.

UHD blu-ray rips are typically between 40 and 80 Gb.

Just met the new DAVE,

So is it still needed to make 2 transactions to finance the wallet, or Is PayMaster implemented so only 1 ANT transaction is needed to start using dave for uploads?

Paymaster it is not implemented. Nodes must be paid with ANT and fees in ETH.

Unfortunately, fees continue to account for almost all of the expenditure, and nodes receive only a meagre portion of the total. I still believe that until this changes, this system is doomed.

What about public downloads? Shouldn’t that be part of Dave as well? I think that is the nr 1 feature new people are looking for

pretty sure it would not be a big job to add public addresses access to the local vault for download.

Some exciting news! Mick is working on adding a data address / data map hex download tool to Dave. It’s mostly working at this point! So that will be a exciting update when its polished and pushed!

Great! Can you shread some light on the paymaster situation (is the holdup technical or legal or something else)

Scrolling through slack, the paymaster is fully ready to be incorporated with the frontend or the client according to Lajos. So I recon we will see it live soon!

Having some problem uploading, tried several times and can’t get past this problem. Windows 11
Anyone knows how to solve the problem?

There was a network outage a few hours ago, now I tested uploading and downloading and it’s currently working (I paid twice, but the second time the file was uploaded successfully)

I’m using windows 11 and today I tried & was able to upload 1 file

And you use it together with MetaMask on your phone, Andriod or Apple?

I was not able to upload a single file yet. Always I get either this error or some other “upload problem” error. And I paid for all of my non-existent uploads already… So, it’s definitely not perfect yet

Tested a few uploads today

First a Large LLM, 7gb after 2-3 hours:

Then a folder 100mb big containing 3 files. After few min:

And finally a single 12kb file:

download took just 10 sec

4 out of 12 points to Dave from Sweden

This is a question somewhat on the fundaments of the network (both as it is now and current trajectory).

Question: Are we able to upload “folders” with some files within, and then add to those folders with additional files later?

Along with this question however is another that has occurred to me since exploring the dweb apps that utilise scratch-pads and the ability to “update” these pads that exist on the network.

One of the fundamental features of this network is the idea that once data is recorded, it is immutable.

However, doesn’t the ability to “edit” files undermine that fundamental principle? I’m curious to understand this relationship with data recorded on the network.

I don’t think so (but I’m barely exploring what can be done now).

All the directory trees and structures can be kept / updated app-side, in your file manager, etc. No need to upload that to the network.
