Marketing Initiatives

Thanks for the advice, David. I’m happy to start a google doc for this, and everyone can add their perspective.

It’s good to see the direction this is going in. I didn’t want to negative earlier but was concerned that this was doomed to failure unless the legal aspects were properly taken into consideration from inception. A SAFE Network Foundation should not be hastily thrown together, which is what appeared to be the case earlier on.

I’m a firm believer in measure (at least) twice, cut once. Inspiration and momentum has to come from/start somewhere, however

Here is a link to a one-pager outlining the Foundation’s Aims, Structure and Key Questions. Send me a note, or reply here if you would like to edit the one-pager; I’ll send you a link with read/write privileges.

Let’s aim to have this one-pager finalized by Wednesday of next week so that David can share with his legal contacts for feedback.

Really nothing I can think of to add to this. I think if everything in there is addressed (and the answer isn’t no its a bad idea for one of these points of course lol) we should then feel confident enough to move out of the hypothetical stage and get things physically happening so to speak.

A believe another project called Lisk created such a foundation. They had to create it under swiss law as it was a lot a lot less difficult to implement it under those regulations! Better use some good lawyers!

Anybody seen @SwissPrivateBanker recently? Perhaps he could offer some advice?

As a quick reminder, if you haven’t already, please take a look at and provide feedback on the SAFE Community Foundation legal questionnaire by Wednesday.

Do we know how much it costs to get a seat at the big boys table yet? Kraken? Binance? I wonder if we shouldn’t raise that target to 500K.

It all depends on how the negotiation goes, what value the exchange sees in the project, and what relationships the project team has or can develop with exchange management.

I pulled together a spreadsheet that links to listing instructions/requirements for the top 100 or so exchanges. See below for a short list of what I think are likely the highest potential exchanges.

While a few exchanges allow traders/investors to submit listing requests on behalf of a project, most exchanges—particularly the highest potential ones—require that the project team make the listing request themselves. Hopefully a SAFE Community Foundation could help lighten the load on MaidSafe by pulling together as much of the required documentation as possible, drafting emails, etc. However, the MaidSafe team’s partnership would be crucial to seeing MAID listed on additional exchanges. It’s unlikely that we’ll get to a point where a listing price (if there is one) is quoted unless the MaidSafe team is involved.

If we’re able to raise up to $500K I think the additional funds should be used to support market makers, liquidity and trade volume.

Just going to throw my hat in to the ring here and make an offer I’ve carefully written and re-written:

If the foundation pays for my travel expenses, I’ll commit to attending any events organised within the UK (which are held on a weekend) and giving talks and tutorials (free of charge) on app development within the SAFE network.

I will eschew image rights, etc, and sign a release allowing the foundation to use any talks or tutorials in their marketing material or to re-release as talks and tutorials on other platforms (Youtube, blogs, etc)

(If the foundation needs a website) I will commit 30 hours of my time (free of charge) across the next 3 months to building it, publishing it to both the clear-net and the SAFE network, and maintaining it.

I’m willing to sign a contract with the foundation to this effect in return for £1 (in legal terms, fair consideration)

Not meaning to be pointlessly negative here, but as for Twitter campaigns and such.
I honestly think the majority of the money would just end up in the hands of ppl who use countless mobiles to farm that sort of thing.
Is there really any way around that, to make sure the interest is from real people, and not just an army of false accounts.

You do come across as quite pointlessly negative, to be honest. First of all, the proposal is to use Twitter’s functionality to build awareness and generate engagement by paying the platform—Twitter—itself for targeted placement. Secondly, the amount of suggested spend for this is low. It appears you may be confusing this tactic for something more like affiliate marketing or bounties. The goal with Twitter is to put the SAFE Network in front of new eyeballs en masse, and to build awareness for specific releases/events (e.g. hackathons, contests, meetups, etc.), which—along with exchange listings—command the majority of the proposed budget.

The best way to collaborate is to borrow from improve with a bit of “yes, and…”. Instead of simply tearing things down, which is easy and destructive, actually take the time to propose something new, interesting, and potentially valuable.

You’re doing a great job @Sotros25 and attracting both support and negativity as a result.

It’s fair enough for people to give feedback, but I’d urge anyone wanting to do this to try and avoid a negative tone which is all too easy, and means you both do harm and don’t get listened to.

I’m a critical person myself, so I have to watch this carefully whenever I comment and I know I don’t always do it well. Giving critical feedback is a real skill, as is knowing when to keep quiet (another note to self ).

Thanks, @happybeing! Constructive feedback is imperative, and this initiative will only work if we all collaborate to build together.
