Just Jams APP and SAFEtube APP will bring in people by the 100’s of thousands over the months to listen to the uploaded media and presume many will also comment on videos. Thus large numbers hopefully will come to the SAFE network with just those 2 APPs requiring accounts for those interacting. Not many will be crypto minded or even know of it apart from the word bitcoin.
Who will pay for the upload of this content? How many people in the community are willing to upload content and how many will wait for someone else to get the job done?
EASY. The one page “buy safecoin” page @JimCollinson displayed.
OR localsafecoin that will arise
OR …
If the effforts and resources are put into native safecoin buy/sell then there will be real easy ways made. While you focus on erc20.safecoin then it will not and these non-crypto people will have to learn crypto and likely give up before they start buying
ERC20.safecoin will have a steep learning curve for all these people, the 100’s millions who will come over the year or 2 if native fiat to safecoin is developed. Like giftcards, like credit card to buy coin, like “in game purchase” style of APP
You think people will pay to upload music to listen? Why not listen to the free Spotify where they have ready-made playlists made for years? The main thing that gives us an advantage over the free services of the old corporate internet is not the content, but the fact that you can own the infrastructure. The content will come at a later stage.
This is an argument against SAFE itself. If you believed this then it doesn’t matter, this whole topic is meaningless and so is the erc20.safecoin too.
I believe that people want to make money. The SAFE network allows them to make money. Everything else will come as a result of the money. Unfortunately, this is human nature.
And you would be sorely wrong and others have said that to you above.
People will want SAFEtube without the advertisements or paying youtube premium, the no censorship (and will to pay for it) and so on
It only takes some to start uploading and people will come to view/listen. Because they will upload stuff people want to watch/listen to. Then others will try. Why not it will be cents for heaps of uploads
While you focus on the money, which is 5-20% of the worth of the network and not the value of the network then you will be blinded to the better ways. Not attacking but trying to be mind opening
Rob, are you familiar with https://about.d.tube/ ?
You can see how many people care about the no censorship and without ads …
Cool stuff tho. I’ve created my channel. Thanks for pointing me towards it.
You’re right, but there’s no point in getting angry. The project is decentralized and ERC20 Safecoin will happen.
If we are lucky it will be before someone hit us with another safe network. Not many people are able to carry out such an attack and if it comes we will have time to react.
I even dare to say that we will have ERC20 MAID. Even now, the vast majority of people here want it, when new people start coming to the community, people who use etherium things will change quickly.
I don’t see SAFEtube working well without PtP.
Oh I don’t think it will stop it, just slow a bit. At first I think it will grow almost as fast with or without since initially it’ll more on principle they move. Even if to keep a secure copy of their video.
Later, after initial growth then some will only come if money/income is there.
BUT at this time youtube income is only worth much for the very few with really large sub base and high views. Otherwise for the majority who even get something each month its pocket money.
The real money is in memberships, patreon, and superchats. All these are things that can be easily introduced into SAFE with variations of tipping. And that is where the majority of earnings for small to medium youtubers is from
Basically what i am saying is tipping will have to be greater without PtP and obviously slow it down a little (how much?)
True. I think there is a psychological aspect served by PtP though where people know they will get automatically rewarded per view by a fair and transparent algorithm. I suppose it’s true that tipping could be the lion share of earnings though.
True and agree totally, as I have also said in support of PtP and still support it completely.
But I don’t think it will stop adoption of a SAFEtube. Remember a SAFEtube is more of an APP to organise your videos and put into a search algorithm. And to say provide memberships for those following a channel and wanting to support it.
Then the player APP for SAFEtube will provide the playing and various forms of tipping and membership joining
I think anyone who is idealistic about file sharing on a site such as piratebay will be more than happy to upload. That’s not who I’m looking to invite unfortunately but the upload cost is small and SAFE makes it easier to consume than searching for and downloading magnet links from some sketchy site and then using torrent software that might be mining crypto and bogging down your computer.
Then imagine PtP in the mix. The whole game changes, again.
I know I will upload my whole library of music, it will be set to private by default and then any of my personal music or works in the public domain I’ll gladly set to public. With my whole library uploaded, I’ll have all of my music available on mobile (MVP for that is about half way done) and I can stream all my music for free from that point on from the “cloud” that is the SAFE network and not have to worry about Apple accidentally deleting it off my device. True story, I used to pay yearly for iTunes Match and my library got deleted off my phone.
17 posts were split to a new topic: Paying for uploads
This doesn’t chime with the history and origin of the web, the linux kernel, peer-to-peer, open source software etc… and many other world changing technologies.
Money can be a nice byproduct of these things, but it’s not the reason for them, the origin, the primary goal, nor the motivating factor. The same is true of the SAFE Network.
I dare say that the web is so big today because of internet commerce. At least I think that’s why it’s growing so fast and everywhere…
But had the web been created with money as the motivating factor, it probably wouldn’t be the success it is today.
It would have been some closed sourced, walled garden, that failed to connect everyone in the world, and allow them to share information freely. (Check out the doomed history of things like online services like compuserve, aol etc for that worked out).
It is only because the primary goal was free and open collaboration that it was a success. It was a platform that many extraordinary businesses were built upon.
