Good old paper wallets never let me down.

Also interested in whether or not downgrading works I too have some Maid on a Trezor.

On a similar note after the news about Ledger recover I stopped updating my Ledger.
(I know that is a matter for debate but not the point)

Much to my delight I was forced to upgrade recently if I wanted to move my assets.
Had me by the short and curlies.

So moral of the story is self custody is still a royal pain in the rear 15 years later.

re the trezor issue.

I reached out Rusnak from SatoshiLabs, he had me try a few things like disabling extensions and using incognito, checked we are using the correct url etc.

After no obvious issues he said that the team will investigate after the weekend!! :tada:

Hi guys

Please help and please explain to me like I am 5 years old.

I need to get my maid off an exchange and have no idea what to do. Can I just buy a Trezor thing (like the one below) and transfer them onto that? Does that work like a usb? .

Thanks guys

Yes to both questions. Before you start the transfer make sure you read the first post and specifically that you have generated a bitcoin address starting with 1.

Or save your money and get a BTC address from bitaddress.org

You can also send them to a “paper wallet”. Use bitaddress.org to generate a BTC address starting with a “1” and then use that address to send your MAID to. Make sure to securely record your private key somewhere safe and out of sight of anyone.

You can use omniwallet.org to send your MAID somewhere if you ever need to before the 1:1 exchange for SNT.

No matter how you store your MAID always make sure there is enough BTC stored at that address so the MAID can be sent.

In case you did not know

  • MAID is using the OMNI protocol
  • OMNI tokens and BTC are not stored in the wallet
  • The wallet only contains the keys for the BTC addresses and can sign a transfer message.
  • BTC and OMNI tokens are just numbers on the BTC blockchain (database)

Thus a hardware device is but one of a few ways to store your MAID since any of the methods are just storing your address keys

Thank you all for your help!! Can I please just clarify:

Go to bitaddress.org and generate a BTC address beginning with 1 (question - is the private key just a password for the btc address?)

After this is done how do I view/use my btc address? Is this done via omniwallet.org?

Thanks guys!! I know this is very basic info but one has to start somewhere

The private key is the key for signing transactions, the public key is referred to as the BTC address.

In addition the public key (BTC address) is also able to be derived from the private key I have been told.

Yes. Just use your BTC address and it will show the assets on that BTC address (BTC and Omni tokens)

Only need to make a Omni wallet when you need to send MAID to another address.

yes you can view in omniwallet. or just use any blockchain explorer that looks at the omni layer. like blockchair.com
